Poll question: Worst Song of All Time!
These pukers deserve notoriety only only because of their lasting cringe-ability, but that you cant get them off your mind.

Sorry but there are only 9 I can name on this poll and I know there are more!

75. Not quite.
The other day, I was at a friend's house, watching Yo Momma on MTV. After the show was over, a music video came on. All I heard was the chorus, which consisted only of "booty booty booty booty rockin everywhere". I win.

Edited on Sat Apr-22-06 12:35 PM by terrya
It was so horribly sad to hear Grace Slick, performing quite possibly the most banal, most soulless, song ever written. It's horrible on all possible levels. The video is even worse than the song, if that's possible.

It sounded like a kid's song and I can just picture Kermit and Miss Piggy dancing to it.

When it comes to the Kinks I'm more of an "All Day and All of the Night", "You Really Got Me" and "Lola" kinda guy.

BTW - Ray Davies has a new solo CD out.

The next time I'm in a bar and somebody plays "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" more that once, I'm going Tom Cruise jump-the-couch batshit crazy and smashing the fucking jukebox.

That said, he (Meatloaf) was brilliant in Fight Club, despite the fact that I hate his music.

130. Meatloaf......
Okay, I know Meatloaf. He's like a friend-once-removed. We get together when he's in Vancouver.

He't totally weird about his music. Like, he's obsessive over it, and what he's going to do next, etc.

But in his defence, Meat is an off-Broadway performer, and was for years before releasing an album. Jim Steinman wrote Bat Out of Hell, and picked Meatloaf and Ellen Foley (Billie on Night Court) to perform it. Meatloaf never expected (or believes he's qualified) to be a rock star. But if you were a starving artist-theatre performer and someone offered you anhuge-assed recording contract, what would you do?

On a related topic, you should see Meatloaf in "Focus" with William H. Macy, David Paymer and Laura Dern. Meatloaf plays Fred, one of Henry Miller's most frightening and menacing characters. Meat plays him to a "T" and is brilliant. I'm surprised he wasn't nominated for a Best Supporting Oscar.

167. I was at a Fourth of July
picnic when the band played that song. I was dumbstruck by how amazingly horrid the song was. But, now, awful as it is, I doubt Bush is quite as fond of the song. Another reminder of how we haven't forgotten Bin Laden - though Bush says "he doesn't think about him" anymore. Guess Bush has "forgotten" his macho "smoke'em out" boasting.

16. Kokomo is the only one on that list I really despise
If I was to make a list of songs I cannot stand. Hmmm.

Don't Worry - be Happy - Bobby McFerrin
Start me Up - Rolling Stones
The Dance - Garth Brooks
Friends in Low Places - Garth Brooks
The Chicken Dance Song
The Electric Slide
Ice Baby - Vanilla Ice

I am sure there are more, but since I no longer listen to the radio I do not have to hear nearly as many. Mostly I hear the songs I have listed played at wedding dances and parties.

204. "Muskrat Love" was a silly throwaway tune on Willis Allen Ramsey's
First album. For many years, it was his only album. Title: "Willis Alan Ramsey" (!)

Willis comes from Alabama, but his LP was one of the best from the Texas Singer/Songwriter scene--the part that overlapped with the Cosmic Cowboys. Many FINE songs--plus that silly Muskrat number.

He took the Muskrat royalties & lived in the British Isles for years. Last I heard, he's ready to go back into Show Bis!

cringe. Sample these Immortal lyrics lyrics:

"Lemme take you somewhere you've never been,
I can show you things you've never seen,
I can make you wanna fall in love again,
Come spend the night inside my sugar walls

Heaven on earth inside my sugar walls.

I can tell you want me, its impossible to hide,
You body's on fire admit it! Come inside my sugar walls."

49. "The Name Game". Shirley Ellis.
The Holy Mountain of ALL stupid/annoying/smashworthy songs.

Here are some lyrics:

Shirley!
Shirley, Shirley bo Birley Bonana fanna fo Firley
Fee fy mo Mirley, Shirley!

Lincoln!
Lincoln, Lincoln bo Bincoln Bonana fanna fo Fincoln
Fee fy mo Mincoln, Lincoln!

Come on everybody!
I say now let's play a game
I betcha I can make a rhyme out of anybody's name
The first letter of the name, I treat it like it wasn't there
But a B or an F or an M will appear
And then I say bo add a B then I say the name and Bonana fanna and a
fo
And then I say the name again with an F very plain
and a fee fy and a mo
And then I say the name again with an M this time
and there isn't any name that I can't rhyme

. . . et cetera, et cetera, NO.

Every time this abomination comes on I get a sing-along from nearly everyone in the car while I cover my ears in pain and suffering.

121. It would be nice if they were returning troops.
But they haven't come back, except for those killed and maimed. They cannot leave the army and in that sense many of them are prisoners.

The "yellow ribbon" game is a fraud in which it is pretended that the soldiers will be returning soon, but they won't. They will be a long time in the Halliburton Garrison.

I watched Hee Haw every week. I think Roy Clark is a fantastic musician, Buck was not. I was sorry to hear he died last month but I thought all his songs sounded the same and used the same two notes. His voice was like fingers on a black board to me. That is as " thought-out"" as I can get for you today sorry if I upset you. I just flat out didn't like him. Hee Haw was a not to missed show in my life then but I couldn't stand ol Buck.

i was able to keep the tv repairman from entering my house after i killed my first telivision.
i strongly advise against it. tv repairman are not good served rare.

187. One of Weird Al's best...
This song's just six words long
This song's just six words long
This song's just six words long
This song's just six words long

Couldn't think of any lyrics
No, I never wrote the lyrics
So I'll just sing any old lyrics
That come to mind, child
You really need words
Whole lotta rhyming words
You gotta rhyme so many words, mm...
To do it, to do it, to do it, to do it
To do it, to do it right, child

This song's just six words long
This song's just six words long
This song's just six words long
This song's just six words long

I know that you're probably sore
'Cause I didn't write any more
I just didn't get to complete it
So that's why I gotta repeat it

This song's just six words long (six words long)
This song's just six words long (six words long)

Oh I make a lotta money
They pay me a ton of money
They're payin' me plenty of money
To sing this song, child
I gotta fill time
Three minutes worth of time
Oh, how will I fill so much time? Mm...
I'll throw in a solo, a solo, a solo
A solo, a solo here

This song's just six words long
This song's just six words long
This song's just six words long
This song's just six words long

This song's got nothing to say
But I'm recording it anyway
I know if I put my mind to it
I know I could find a good rhyme here

Oh, you gotta have-a music
You need really catchy music
This song has got plenty of music
But just six words, child
And so I'll sing 'em over
And over and over and over,
And over and over and over, mm...
And over and over and over,
And over and over and over again

107. TUBTHUMPING? BEST fall down drunk song of the 20th century
There was a Butthumping mix, Danny Boy Mix, Gunshot Mix,

We’ll be singing
When we’re winning
We’ll be singing

I get knocked down
But I get up again
You’re never going to
Keep me down
(This should be our motto)

Pissing the night away
Pissing the night away

He drinks a whisky drink
He drinks a vodka drink
He drinks a lager drink
He drinks a cider drink
He sings the songs that
Remind him
Of the good times
He sings the songs that
Remind him
Of the better times:

Oh danny boy
Danny boy
Danny boy...

I get knocked down
But I get up again
You’re never going to
Keep me down

Pissing the night away
Pissing the night away

He drinks a whisky drink
He drinks a vodka drink
He drinks a lager drink
He drinks a cider drink
He sings the songs that
Remind him
Of the good times
He sings the songs that
Remind him
Of the better times:

Don’t cry for me
Next door neighbour...

I get knocked down
But I get up again
You’re never going to
Keep me down

We’ll be singing
When we’re winning
We’ll be singing

(No wonder you like some of the songs we hate!!!!!!)

168. It might not be what the song is about
But to me:
I get knocked down
But I get up again
You're never going to
Keep me down

is rather inspirational.

It might not be what the group intended but when I listened to it, I thought that it described a person's struggle with alcoholism. Then I thought how it could apply to a lot of situations just like I think "All the Things She Said" by TATU could apply to a lot of other situations besides a lesbian relationship.

108. "Once You Understand" Think (1971)
Edited on Sun Apr-23-06 02:01 AM by Hissyspit
Chorus continues
Underneath entire song)

Things get a little easier
Once you understand
Things get a little easier
Once you understand.....

I`ll be expecting you to
Get a haircut by Friday
(Forget it, Dad)
(That won`t change anything)
Forget nothing, you`ll do as I say
As long as you`re living in my house

He knows I`m not feeling well
And yet he doesn`t take one
Second out to help his mother
His only concern is for himself

(Come on, Ma)
(What do you want from me)
Don`t argue with your mother
Just shut up and listen

But, Mom, all my
Friends will be there
(I said, no, you can`t go)
But why
(I don`t want you
In that neighborhood)
Why, what`s wrong
With that neighborhood
(I don`t like the kind of
People living there)
Why, what`s wrong with them
(Nevermind)
(Some day, you`ll thank me)

Are you sure no one kept you
Company tonight while
You were babysitting
(What`s that supposed to mean)
Just curious
(Admit it, Mom, you don`t trust me)

Where are you going now
(To my friend`s house)
Don`t you have things
To do in the house
Don`t you have any homework
Why don`t you sit down
And read a book (oh, ma)

Don`t oh, Ma, me
You`re wasting your life
Away with the foolish things
(What are you talking about
How about your bridge club
And your ladies groups
And your parties and
Your daytime programs
What about all that)
That`s different

Ma, I`ll be home at eleven
(You better be home at ten or
Don`t bother to come home at all)

When I was your age
I was working twelve hours a day
Six days a week helping to pay
For the food and the rent
(I don`t understand, what`s
That got to do with me)
If you can`t figure that out
For yourself, you`re stupid

Hey, Dad
Did you see my new guitar
I joined a group
(Son, there`s a little bit more
To life than joining a group
And playing the guitar)
Yeah, Dad, what is there to life

Mister Cook (yes)
You have a son named Robert
Robert Cook, age seventeen (yes)
I`m sorry, Mister Cook
You better come down
To the station house
You son is dead (dead, how)
He died of an overdose (oh, God)

116. the worst song of all time? WTF
Stop! in the name of love
Before you break my heart

Baby, baby
I’m aware of where you go
Each time you leave my door
I watch you walk down the street
Knowing your other love you’ll meet
But this time before you run to her
Leaving me alone and hurt
(think it over) after I’ve been good to you ?
(think it over) after I’ve been sweet to you ?

Stop! in the name of love
Before you break my heart
Stop! in the name of love
Before you break my heart
Think it over
Think it over

I’ve known of your
Your secluded nights
I’ve even seen her
Maybe once or twice
But is her sweet expression
Worth more than my love and affection ?
But this time before you leave my arms
And rush of to her charms
(think it over) haven’t I been good to you ?
(think it over) haven’t I been sweet to you ?

Stop! in the name of love
Before you break my heart
Stop! in the name of love
Before you break my heart
Think it over
Think it over

I’ve tried so hard, hard to be patient
Hoping you’d stop this infatuation
But each time you are together
I’m so afraid I’ll be losing you forever

Stop! in the name of love
Before you break my heart
Stop! in the name of love
Before you break my heart
Stop! in the name of love
Before you break my heart

Baby, think it over
Think it over, baby
Ooh, think it over baby...

:puke:

Spring was never waiting for us, girl
It ran one step ahead
As we followed in the dance
Between the parted pages and were pressed,
In love's hot, fevered iron
Like a striped pair of pants

CHORUS
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down...
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!

I recall the yellow cotton dress
Foaming like a wave
On the ground around your knees
The birds, like tender babies in your hands
And the old men playing checkers by the trees

CHORUS

There will be another song for me
For I will sing it
There will be another dream for me
Someone will bring it
I will drink the wine while it is warm
And never let you catch me looking at the sun
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life
You'll still be the one.

I will take my life into my hands and I will use it
I will win the worship in their eyes and I will lose it
I will have the things that I desire
And my passion flow like rivers through the sky.
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life
I'll be thinking of you
And wondering why.

Chicago or even "Classical Gas" by Mason Williams>

MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down...
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!
Oh, no
No, no
Oh NO!! (upon which Harris suffers an irreversible gender change)

How can you tell a song by a band from outside North America? When it is set "on the East Side of Chicago." Which, from the last time I checked, appears to be somewhere at the bottom of Lake Michigan.

217. There actually is an East Side
in Chicago, which is not generally known to most people outside the city (or probably by most people in the city). The "East Side" is a neighborhood located on the south east side of the city, so the song is not technically wrong.

That being said, I'm not sure the singers knew about the East Side neighborhood either.

The Lyrics are good too:

Get up in the morning, slaving for bread, sir,
so that every mouth can be fed.
Poor me, the Israelite. Aah.

Get up in the morning, slaving for bread, sir,
So that every mouth can be fed.
Poor me, the Israelite. Aah.

My wife and my kids, they are packed up and leave me.
Darling, she said, I was yours to be seen.
Poor me, the Israelite. Aah.

Shirt them a-tear up, trousers are gone.
I don't want to end up like Bonnie and Clyde.
Poor me, the Israelite. Aah.

After a storm there must be a calm.
They catch me in the farm. You sound the alarm.
Poor me, the Israelite. Aah.

Poor me, the Israelite.
I wonder who I'm working for.
Poor me, Israelite,
I look a-down and out, sir.

That "song" is pure torture. I pity the poor recording engineer that had to sit through the making of that! Hopefully it was recorded in a digital workstation, if they tracked analog I'd be afraid the poor engineer would be eyeing the editing razor blades and his wrists alternately.

Truly awful! In Madison that "song" usually vomits forth from Z-104...no station makes me want to smash a radio as violently as Z-104 does...if I walk into a business and they have it on, I leave.

I'm a big Bette fan and although "Wind Beneath My Wings" is truly cringeworthy, "From a Distance" is a song about peace. I was actually singing it and crying on 9/11 when i went to pick my kids up at school. Bette is a true supporter of the cause, so please don't pick on her.

249. Don't mind Oasis at all
Maria Muldaur's vocals on Oasis were amazing. The lyrics may have been banal, but her singing was fantastic.

But I hope that there is a special circle of hell reserved for whoever wrote this:

Gonna find my baby, gonna hold her tight
Gonna grab some afternoon delight
My motto's always been 'when it's right, it's right'
Why wait until the middle of a cold dark night?
When everything's a little clearer in the light of day
And we know the night is always gonna be there any way

Thinkin' of you's workin' up my appetite
Looking forward to a little afternoon delight
Rubbin' sticks and stones together makes the sparks ingite
And the thought of rubbin' you is getting so exciting

Sky rockets in flight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight

Started out this morning feeling so polite
I always thought a fish could not be caught who wouldn't bite
But you've got some bait a waitin' and I think I might try nibbling
A little afternoon delight

Sky rockets in flight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight

Please be waiting for me, baby, when I come around
We could make a lot of lovin' 'fore the sun goes down

Thinkin' of you's workin' up my appetite
Looking forward to a little afternoon delight
Rubbin' sticks and stones together makes the sparks ingite
And the thought of rubbin' you is getting so exciting

Sky rockets in flight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight
Afternoon delight

Afternoon delight!

I don't know why anyone would put him on the list. I wont do that, let me explain to you what that is- when he sings the song he goes into a litney of things he wont do, such as he wont lie to his girlfriend, that's what that is. Do we got it now :D
Of course music is subjective and you do have the right to disagree with me.

that she kept moving about and she was soooo tall.
The same words were repeated over and over...it was horrible.
Also it won some kind of award...this was about 9 or 10 years ago.

248. From A Distance, won a Grammy as Song Of The Year
And it's no wonder.

From A Distance

From a distance the world looks blue and green,
and the snow-capped mountains white.
From a distance the ocean meets the stream,
and the eagle takes to flight.

From a distance, there is harmony,
and it echoes through the land.
It's the voice of hope, it's the voice of peace,
it's the voice of every man.

From a distance we all have enough,
and no one is in need.
And there are no guns, no bombs, and no disease,
no hungry mouths to feed.

From a distance we are instruments
marching in a common band.
Playing songs of hope, playing songs of peace.
They're the songs of every man.
God is watching us. God is watching us.
God is watching us from a distance.

From a distance you look like my friend,
even though we are at war.
From a distance I just cannot comprehend
what all this fighting is for.

From a distance there is harmony,
and it echoes through the land.
And it's the hope of hopes, it's the love of loves,
it's the heart of every man.

It's the hope of hopes, it's the love of loves.
This is the song of every man.
And God is watching us, God is watching us,
God is watching us from a distance.
Oh, God is watching us, God is watching.
God is watching us from a distance
