3. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news
...and don't get me wrong. I love the Brewers, but ever since the strike, steroids, All-Star Tie Baseball has been suffering a slow death.

12. Way to prove your own lack of intelligence.
Never mind the 500 page playbooks each player has to memorize, in addition to the immeasurable amounts of improvisation that goes on during each play.

16. I played football in high school
and I've known a bunch of pro players.

Yeah, all football players are Einsteins.

I've typically found offensive linemen to be the smartest players.

17. Perhaps your team sucked.
Because quite frankly, idiots never amounted to much of anything on the football field, unless they were athletic freaks.

I played both football and baseball for over 12 years each. There is no fucking way possible that you played both and came out of it thinking baseball was more of a thinker's game.

24. You think my team sucked, huh?
And you have no idea who I am or what team I played for?

You and me pal, right now, outside.

Oh wait. we did suck. Never mind.

I played both, baseball very seriously. I was originally teasing about football and stupidity, but now you've gone and convinced me that I was right. Football players are brain damaged and football fans are stupid. Thanks for the edumacation!

In all seriousness, I don't think there is any comparison. Baseball is a much more cerebral game. Way more different contextual frames that come at you nonstop, way more latent possibilities . . . it's just by it's nature more complex, more reflective, less reactive (although for many players, it is far more athletically demanding than it commonly gets credit for).

But I don't think either sport has a significant relevance to the intelligence of either the players or the fans. They're both just diffrerent ways of organizing time. If you want to watch a bunch of brain-damaged behemoths knock each other down, more power to you. ;-)

36. Only the quarterbacks have to memorize the entire playbook
The rest of 'em have to know only their own job.

And the typical playbook is more like 150-200 pages, not all of it plays.

And there's little improv unless there's a broken field. The majority of times, the two back hits the three hole, etc.

Football is a ballet of rhinoceri.

39. Not true at all.
The only ones on the field that don't have to keep track of everyone are the wide receivers. Lineman must know ALL blocking assignments on every play for every position. And there's tons of improv - a very small, yet intensely common example is compensating for a blitzing linebacker. It changes the entire blocking scheme and the players have to make that adjustment on the fly, and the running back has to have the vision to see the correct hole and not just run blindly where the play is heading. Wide receivers constantly adjust their routes to shift with the coverage scheme. And on defense, it's nearly all improv.

stand outside in summertime in long pants. Wait for ball to be thrown again. OOOH he swung! Ah he missed. scratch at dirt again. wait. wait. wait.

Baseball is no more cerebral than football.

19. you left out the spitting. what are you, some kind of moran?
baseball is like an iceberg. like most of the iceberg is submerged, most of what goes on in baseball is mental.

which given the mental capacities of the players, is equivalent to being submerged.

11. Yep
I can't wait to see who the Steelers draft. We've come up with gold in the first day since 2001 since that was the year we drafted Casey Hampton. Imagine this we drafted Troy P in the first round in 2003, Big Ben in 2004, and Heath Miller in 2005, you have to imagine that Cowher and Colbert have a great pick in mind.

Keisel is going to replace Kimo now that Kimo's going to the Jets. Maybe you guys can draft a defense and that may get you further because Ive watched footage of that game. Kitna is no Carson Palmer butyou guys had two ten point leads. Thats why you lost and Brad St.Louis's botched snap.

38. I don't pay attention to baseball until after the all-star break.

I used to follow the whole season, but there's just too many games. I can watch the 3,000 games they have after the all-star break to get a good idea of what's going on.

The good thing about all those games, though, is that my team can be about 500 games or so behind, and still catch up because there's like 3,000 or so games left.
