Music For The Dem Convention??
I always remember that when Bill Clinton used the Fleetwood Mac song, Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow, it seemed to really energize everyone and think hey, wow, this guy is sort of in our generation....
Cuz it was Bush Sr, Perot, they seemed more Last Century than Next Century.

Who would you like to see perform at the Convention? I'd like to see some working-class boys turned rock stars, maybe BRUUUUUUCE! John Mellencamp also wrote a piece against the war...Barbra to do the Nat'l Anthem? She could hit the high notes for sure....

And who will sing for the college kids and the 20-somethings out there, any suggestions of perfs who might be sympathetic to the cause?

http://www.punkvoter.com/about/about_members.php

3. Whatever they pick will probably be pablum
I doubt you'll see any punk bands or the like.

Personally, I cringe whenever I hear what either party picks as the music at their conventions. If you'll excuse me bagging, it's all so "white-bread" and a lot of it reminds me of lawyers at a disco trying to act younger than their age.

Of course the music has to be kind of bland when it's a national event I realize.

4. U2 Beautiful Day
I liked it when it played during Clark's intro at the Florida convention. I don't know if it's his "official" themesong but he could do a lot worse.

7. Absolutely...
It fit the mood perfectly. I really don't see how he could make a better pick than "Beautiful Day".

6. Mr. President by Randy Newman
We've taken all you've given
But it's gettin' hard to make a livin'
Mr. President have pity on the working man

We're not asking you to love us
You may place yourself high above us
Mr. President have pity on the working man

I know it may sound funny
But people ev'ry where are runnin' out of money
We just can't make it by ourself

It is cold and the wind is blowing
We need something to keep us gong
Mr. President have pity on the working man

Maybe you've cheated
Maybe you've lied
Maybe you have finally lost your mind
Maybe you're only thinking 'bout yourself

Too late to run. Too late to cry now
The time has come for us to say good-bye now
Mr. President have pity on the working man
Mr. President have pity on the working man

One of his best Guthrie-isms.

:D

And very evocative of the pain and tragedy this administration led us through.

9. I don't care if Slayer plays it
So long as I don't have to hear a note or catch one glimpse of Streisand.

I don't want her in Boston, either.

10. Babs
I'm no fan of Babs' singing style but she does have a beautiful voice for the anthem IMO....and she's a party loyalist, she's taken lots of hits and exhibited grace under fire, IMO!

Yeah but the question isn't, what concert do you want to go to? The question is who can they get that will draw some demographic to tune into the convention, like the college kids, who we would like to hear the message and become energized politically.

I mean, I don't care if it's Beyonce or somebody like that, who I have absolutely no desire to see whatsoever.

I like jazz which is THE American Music btw!! Alas it has been forsaken by most Americans for some damn reason and so of little use here. It's Europe and Japan who are keeping the Jazz artists going these days.

15. Dixie Chicks! Willie Nelson?
Actually I think they are really good -- not being into country music I never really listened before the big bru ha ha, I bought the CD just to spite the Clear Channel evildoers, I was surprised to like it.

Other country perfs speaking out about GWB -- Merle Haggard & Kris Kristofferson.

Check out the "editorial" on Haggard's site!

18. If Kucinich is the nominee, Willie would be a good choice.
He's doing a benefit concert Jan. 3rd here in Austin. :-)

20. Johnny Cash
I had not only Merle Haggard and Kris Kristofferson in mind, but how about Johnny Cash? He was probably the one artist that everyone from teenagers to seniors can agree is cool.
