Any Seattle DUers with crash-space?
Can anyone help me find a couch for a fellow DUer* to crash on for a month or so while he restarts his life in Seattle? Any help would be much appreciated!

Tucker

1. Wish I did
Our little place can barely hold the two of us, our four cats and our bird. Good luck to you - I'm sure someone out there will come through for you.

2. Thanks for asking for me Tucker
:loveya:

I am a brave man, but I am scared to ask things like that. :scared:

Anyway.. I have to go run some errands and talk to some friends, if anyone replies to this and needs answers from me, either just PM or ask here and I will answer as soon as I get home.

Thanks all, no matter what. :yourock:

7. Go homeless
Do you have a job up their already? Its faily easy to be homeless in Seattle. It would be nice to have some income though so you dont have to depend on handouts. Hell i would have spent my whole life homeless living by percival creek in Oly if i didnt have a girlfriend. If i was the only person i had to take care of i wouldnt live in a house ever again. All i need is a dry place to keep my books, guns, lighters, and such and i am good to go. If my girlfriend leaves me you can expect me to become a hillbilly and move into a national park freaking out all the tourists.

Good luck though. If youre into magic mushrooms look me up. I can point you in the right direction. Theres only 19 different known kinds growing in Washington. :-)

13. No--that isn't OK

Being homeless sucks royally, and it's amazingly hard to get out of.

I was talking with Jag about our situation tonight (ironically, the talk began with a "To be or not to be?" question*) and he made a very good point: Anyone who can't stand on their own can't stand with someone else either. Or to put it another way, one drowning person cannot rescue another.

Going homeless is NOT a valid option. You MUST find somewhere to live, or have enough money to cover a months' rent or so, before you move. (A month's rent on a room in a house here will be about $400.) Otherwise I'm afraid we'll both sink together--and I can't bear the thought of hurting you that way.

16. "One drowning person cannot rescue another"...?
Possibly. But I've found, from personal experience, that it's possible for two floundering people to keep afloat by hanging on to each other. (That doesn't mean that it's a good strategy to come out here with a plan to be homeless -- Seattle can be a rough place to be on the street. particularly in the winter. But if everyone had to be able to stand on their own -- a not-unsurprising opinion from a Republican, BTW -- there would be a lot of people lying face-down all over the place.)

I have no intention of being homeless. I will be cool. Everything will be fine.

9. Secret...?????
SECRET?????

Seriously, Tucker, for anyone who's been following the two-person threads in the lounge over the past month, that's been about the worst-kept secret since Bush's desire to invade Iraq. :eyes: Many's the time I've been sorely tempted to post a "For God's sake, find a virtual motel room!" message on one of those threads. ;-)

I wish I could help, but with three family members, four cats, and a 100-foot-long tree (see the "Tim-BERRRRRRRRR!!!" thread) currently occupying the house, I don't think we'll have any room for some time. Besides, where we live is about an hour's drive from Seattle -- not the best place from which to restart one's life there.

But anywhere local is at least closer than Florida, where he currently is. :(

10. Sorry, not much space, but here's a deal you can look into
I occasionally have friends come in to town who are looking for inexpensive accommodation. If you're young and not above that sort of thing:

The dorm beds are quite reasonably priced, and if you do the 'work a week' deal, you can save even more cash.

18. This probably wouldn't work very well -
But I live in Roslyn, and have LOTS of space - and need a housekeeper! :)

That may be too far away - but my SO runs the food/bev dept of a hotel in Ellensburg and is always looking for help, and the pass is hiring this time of year.

It might work for a little while - even being an hour away. If you can't find anything else, let me know.

19. Hey thanks a lot.
I will see how things pan out in the next week or so, I have emails flying frantically and I am going to see if I can find someplace else..

However, I am definately going to remember this and will get you a secure yes or no as soon as I have my resources secure.

I'm also trying to line up some work before I actually arrive.

Thanks and I will speak to you again soon. Thanks again! :yourock:

20. Jobs -
check here:

http://www.summit-at-snoqualmie.com/winter/seasonal.html

It's at the ski resort located halfway between where Tucker is (Bellevue) and where I am (Roslyn). It would probably be a good job to start with (no matter where in WA you end up), because it's temporary - which would allow you to get settled, make some money, and give you time to look for a REAL job.

I worked there the first winter I lived here. (Michigan girl, here!) And a heads up - they do drug test.

Seriously, the invite stands in any case. I've had people that didn't know me take a chance on me before, so I'm happy to return my karmic favor.

A couple of things - if you're allergic to critters my house would be the death of you. Currently in residence are: 3 rats (although that could change - they are on the decline), 3 ferrets, 3 kitties, a puppy, and 3 sugar gliders.

If you're allergic to "dirt" - my house would be the death of you. *L* Hence the need of a housekeeper! It gets messy before I can get it cleaned - so it's a never ending battle. I would be HAPPY to have someone stay at my house for awhile if for no other reason than another body to help pick shit up! :) The animals always seem to be kept clean - the rest of the house, fuggedaboutit!

I don't have an extra bed - so you wouldn't get your own room. My spare room is the junk room - soon to be sewing room. I DO, however, have this totally bitchin loft bed in a room off my living room. The room has exceptionally high ceilings, and someone built a large closet in part of the room. On top of the closet they sunk a full size mattress. I slept on it for awhile before I got my bed moved in. It's pretty nifty, but there's really no privacy.

21. Well I gotta tell you....
You've made the most appealing offer so far. :)

This is definately sounding like the best way to try and make my start out there. Thanks a lot.

Not allergic to any animals I've ever met. Not allergic to dirt either.

Thanks so much for this opportunity!
