but Kid Rock (Robert Richie) is anything but trailer trash. His father is one of the wealthiest men in the Detroit area; Richie, Sr. owns a couple of car dealerships.

Then he found out there was a shortage of Trailer Trash rockers and remolded himself in that image. Started smokin' Marlboros, drinkin' Bud and singin' songs the "po white trash" would like. Now he's a millionaire.

And I don't think his mansion says Fleetwood on it.

He followed the basic tenet of business: find a need and fill it.

I live for a while in Bartholomew County Indiana, home of another Columbus (at one time it was named Tippecanoe, or so I was told). I almost took a job in St. Louis once, but the place was a shithole and their machines all old junk (even though they paid well).

No, not a cutdown on people from Indiana. Although for the most part I can't understand their politics there. The local paper in Columbus was called The Repuglican, so you can imagine the hit pieces they had in there about President Clinton.

I saw a clip of him playing with his band where he jumped on every instrument and did a solo. He was ridiculously proficient at each one, so he's clearly got some talent hidden amidst all the dreck. You'd never know it though.

Not that I have that far to go...but damn, I can't stand him...I liked him at first, but now he just sucks because he calls himself a singer/songwriter, but he keeps doing covers. Loser. Poser...And he may be the son of a wealthy dude in detroit, but he looks like trailer trash. I think he just thinks that if he looks like that, he'll relate better with his demographic.

I actually sorta liked a couple of things he did some time back. Not the crap that got airplay, but album cuts. Actually saw a concert, and he did in fact play every single instrument on the stage, and played them pretty darn well. Doesn't mean he's not a punk.

Hate his music, hate his politics. Two very important things to me.

I'll take the bait.

I think his "Devil Without a Cause" album is great. Some of my favorite driving music.

His politics suck. But I don't judge artists by their politics. I judge politicians that way. I judge artists by their art.

And that being said.... Charlton Heston is a bad actor.

I think he is very talented - no matter what anyone else thinks. He can play all instruments in his band. I really like him, not BECAUSE top-40 does, but in SPITE OF the self-appointed movie/tv/music/art/literature snobs (ie: nazis)on this board - and in spite of the top-40 crowd.

Just because I can appreciate Kid Rock doesn't mean my music collection revolves around him.

I like Survivor - but that doesn't make me lower than anyone else here who may like some show I happen to think is stupid.

I enjoy reading Stephen King novels, but that doesn't mean I have no appreciation for deeper literature.

I like what I like because I like it - not because I need the approval of anyone else, or because I must impress anyone with my taste for only the obscure.

Some people really need to get over themselves.

The "I hate so and so" threads really make me wonder. The vicious attacks on some artists are disheartening at times.

Snobbery of any kind art seems like a conservative game to me. Today I listened to the Northern IL Concert Chior on local am NPR station , and I was blown away. I was expecting to heear that it was a major-big city outfit. Right now I am listening to OPP by N B N. With as much as there is out there to offer, I find that there is to much that I enjoy to fret over songs/movies/books that don`t appeal to me.

I heard it a couple of times, not knowing who it was, and thought, you know, that's one of the few country songs I could stand to hear again...Then I found out it was who it was, and thought, well...maybe I shouldn't be so judgemental.
