Good Tuesday Morning, Crew!

:donut::hi:
Welcome to the Tuesday edition of the Early Morning Crew thread! :bounce: I hope you had a great start to your work week, and you're ready to get this new day started with me! :woohoo:

I spoke with the mortgage broker yesterday on a couple of occasions, and we've hit a snag or two I'm going to have to try to overcome. I don't know why I thought this process was going to be easy. So, I'm a little disappointed with him. I'm thinking I need to go a different route than the one I started down here. I know there are MANY different companies and ways to go about buying a house and it's time to explore a few of them. I'll let you know what's next after I have some time to research some more.

So are you ready to get going? I hope so, because...here we go! :bounce::woohoo:

4. Hi Clintmax!! As an appraiser, I will tell you..shop around for a bank
and a mortgage broker you can trust. There are some who take their jobs seriously and are ethical, and there are others who could not even give you a definition for ethical. I work with them every day...some good and some bad. And almost all have a different way of approaching things.

I didn't know you were an appraiser! :bounce: I'm thinking the same thing. The thing is, this broker was referred to me by my realtor and I thought he was going to be good. x( What do you think of the E companies? E-Loan and the like?

13. I usually won't do work for them. I do accept some jobs from Ditech's
E department, but they are about it. Since virtually all brokered loans go to the secondary loan market, I usually recommend that people go straight to a bank. Many offer the same types of deals that the brokers offer. I do a lot of work for Chase, Flagstar, and National City. Chase reviews all of its loan purchases and the majority of the secondary market is being bought up by them.

When you are ready to buy, make sure you get a decent appraisal. There is a lot of fraud going around. Realtors and brokers are like doctors. They refer for each other as a matter of courtesy in hopes of getting jobs. This realtor may not even know anything about the broker...their kids just might play on the same ball team.

This is the toughest part Clintmax. If you have any friends who have purchased homes I would ask them who they used for their mortgage. Let me know if I can help you with anything. :)

79. Very very difficult question.
It all depends on your taste - there's a far wider variety of music under the classical umbrella than there is under the whole of the pop/rock... genres.

What sort of music do you like?

Sorry to be a pain in the arse, but there's barely two people on earth who like exactly the same stuff.

106. I know
I just meant, please suggest something that's really great.

I can't answer the question "what sort of music do you like" except to say that I like good music and I don't much care what category it has been allocated.

My taste in music is not at all confined to pop and rock. If that was what you thought please let me tell you; it is not so.

If it will help, I can tell you about stuff I have liked in the past. In orchestras I have played and enjoyed Beethoven's 5th and 6th. I also like Holst's Planets suite. Not really 'classical' music, but I think An American In Paris is a masterpiece; I like it even more than Rhapsody In Blue, although I enjoy that too. I don't expect any of this helps very much, though.

All these are among the most famous pieces. Everybody knows them. I am asking you because I would like to try something that I wouldn't otherwise think of.

147. A few ideas then.
If you're interested in pushing slightly at the boundaries.

Olivier Messiaen - Turangalila Symphony. Messiaen spends about a third of the time as my favourite composer, I would pick a fight with anybody who didn't agree with me that he was the greatest 20th century composer (few things get me into fights - but music is one ;) ). If you want try a chamber work his Quator pour le Fin du Temps (Quartet for the End of Time) - this was actually written in a Nazi P.o.W. camp. Both works (like all of his music) are infused with a deep and distinctive spirituality.

Leos Janacek - Glagolitic Mass. Though the term Glagolitic merely refers to the language used (a form of Croatian) it's acutally a magnificently onomatopoeic word to describe the whole work.

Dimitri Shostakovich - 4th and 7th Symphonies. The 4th was the last major work which he wrote before being attacked by Stalin over his opera "Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk", he withdrew it in the middle of rehersals and quickly wrote the 5th (which is very widely admired) given the times the other option might well have been the Gulag. The 7th represents his rehabilitation, it was written during the German invasion of the Soviet Union, and in particular the seige of Leningrad (he was right in the middle of it) - it became a major propaganda coup for the Soviets and was performed in the seiged city in the summer of 1942.

Benjamin Britten - War Requiem. Marries the usual Latin texts of the Requiem with some of Wilfred Owen's poetry from the First World War. Written to commemorate the rebuilding of Coventry Cathedral.

Richard Wagner - Parsifal. My favourite of his operas and easy listening at a mere 4 hours or so...As usual an odd mixture of imageries. I know that Wagner wouldn't like the notion of just listening to his operas (as opposed to seeing them).

More 'risky' choices:

Arvo Paert - Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten. A very different sound world, to an extent a case of love-it-or-hate-it, written for strings and bell - with Paert one can't really speak of a 'tune' he writes (he's still living - in Germany, though a native Estonian) music according to a principle of his own devising called tintinabulation.

Tomas Luis da Victoria - Officium Defunctorum. If you're interested in trying early music whilst many of the works are undoubtably great music, because they pre-date the tonal structure which we're given from birth many find them to an acquired taste. Written for the funeral of the Empress Maria in 1603 - one of the heights of the renaissance. The undoubted master of Iberian renaissance (some of us would say of all renaissance - pooh to Palestrina).

Buying a house is never easy or straight forward - I hope that you manage to get things sorted quickly.

The day has been very up and down with things irritating me, and then other things making me happy. I had to do a dash of retail therapy when I first got into the office (about which I posted a thread, thus far ignored) because the shop had run out of milk to have with my lunch x(

I'm listening to Shostakovich's 1st Piano Concerto at the moment - which is very jolly.

The complete Shostakovich String Quartets. :bounce: :bounce:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000042HV/ref=wl_it_dp/202-2767508-2459841?%5Fencoding=UTF8&coliid=I3NHXFFGL0QK29&v=glance&colid=2YCPBP08WLF2O

A string quartet has (by definition) 4 string players - normally 2 violins, a viola and a 'cello with three or four movements each. Shostakovich's are wonderful examples of early-mid 20th century chamber music.

But they'll be stuck into Mildred's C.D. drive as soon as possible - thence to her hard-drive, thence to the M.P.3.

Then I can sit here and listen to them all day long.

now that's funny. I've just discovered Shostakovitch last month. Heard Sym. #10 in E minor Op. 93 (1953) performed by the Kirov Orchestra (Valery Gergiev conductor). Truly excellent and now I am a fan. You're clearly more versed in classical music than I am, so it's interesting reading your posts.

He had a massive (and I mean massive) Shostakovich fetish, we both live near London so one summer we went to all of the Shostakovich performances during the Proms (there were several that year).

My 12:30 class was cancelled so I had to sit around until my 5:00 class. x( I can't afford the gas to go home and come back. Other than that it was great. I got an 88% on a paper I though was horrible. I mean really terrible.

But I know how you feel with the price of gas. It freaking SUCKS, that's true. Thinking a paper was horrible and then getting a better grade than you thought you'd get happens to everyone I think. It's always good, though, huh? :bounce:

92. I would start with the Season 1 DVD.
The 5th season is on TV now, and each season can be viewed only by itself, but there are several major plot points in this season that might give away events in previous seasons.

Although I do have to say that this current season is probably the best one yet.

23. Good morning Clint!
The mortgage process easy!   Trust me, you want to check out several different mortgage brokers to make sure you're getting the best rates. Particularly be careful if the seller tries to get you to go with their broker--they may not always be working in your best interest.

I'm on the opposite end of your problem though. I'm apartment hunting, and discovering that it's not easy for a single person to find an affordable place to live. Even the craphole little town I'm currently living in (population around 21K) has nothing under $900-1200 a month, and several of those I know for a fact are crime ridden places I wouldn't live in for half that price. So after searching in a 30 mile radius and coming up with the same price ranges for studios and 1 bedrooms, I found that only two local cities have affordable places. One I ruled out because the ones I could afford are all dangerous roach motels. So that leaves me with one choice, which fortunately is where my weekend job is situated. That will at least save me gas money if nothing else. Still, you'd at least think one could find a decent place to live without forking over half their take-home pay (and that from two full-time jobs no less).

"19". I remember that from my high school years. I put that on my hard drive not to long ago as a matter of fact.

I know how you feel about the rent thing! The place we're in has turned into a ghetto and we've seriously outgrown it! I looked, at first, for another apartment, but it's murder to find a place that accepts and cat AND a dog. And plus, the rent is so damned expensive. x(

I've always liked 19...but you're right...it's been forever since I've heard it! I think you and I went to high school at the exact same time! :bounce:

46. I just don't get how they can get away with what they charge for rent
I'm just astonished. I can't imagine how single parents live, particularly when they have crappy jobs like mine, or worse ones. I work two jobs and have trouble--imagine if I had kids! :scared: (though one of the major reasons I've never had them is I could never afford them)

I said it before but it bears repeating. Wherever you think you're going to buy, check out the neighborhood very well. You want to know what it's going to be like re: kids, traffic, noise, etc. The reason we're leaving the neighborhood we're in is because of obnoxious kids who have no respect for others' property, criminal activity and noise all hours of the day and night. It's just not the neighborhood we were led to believe it would be.

59. Yeah, but remember . .
breaking a lease is mucher cheaper than rushing into something that won't be perfect for you and greekspeak. Will your apt let you go month to month? Around here, rentals are really down, so they are willing to do just about anything to keep units occupied. Do you have a sublet clause? (Is this all too serious for the early morning thread :)

It's because when i was around 9-years of age my next door neighbor offered me her glass of iced tea, and not wanting to be rude i tried it. Of course afterward i regretted it because there were some cigarette ash in it, so it just totally ruined it for me.

But before that memory, i did love the thought of coffee because i ate a coffee bean my father offered me at an airport, let's say i went into the ultimate hyper stage.

I will try to post the pics from this trip faster than from Prague.

I'm surprisingly calm.
 Never got out of my jammies on Sunday. I was doing a lot of writing for work (among other stuff around the house) and the next thing I knew it was five o'clock. So I figured, why bother getting dressed!

142. First of all
I just LOVE that LOL pic. I stole it of course.

Glad you could relax a bit this weekend. Sometimes we need days where we don't have to go out and just hang around in the jammies. Shouldn't be the most stressful time for you at work be over by now?

for two big gigs that'll be happening on Thursday and Friday. Not quite as big as my January project, but just as important. Lots of work, but very rewarding.

Ahhh . . . so you stole my LOL kitty heh! Here's another smilie that I think you'll like. Feel free to pilfer.

Please let me add my well wishes to all the posts above. I'll keep good vibes about your mortgage/house hunt.

Don't know what I did to it. It feels a bit better though today. Not a bad as Sunday. Yesterday it was ok but I couldn't sit for long periods of time so being at work was almost unbearable. I had to sit and take phone calls all night and it was just killing me.

I was supposed to go to the chiropractor again today, but I'm pretty sure I can't drive and harleydad can't leave work to drive me. So I have to wait till Thursday. That's fine ... I bet it'll be all better by then. :D
