Do other parents notice a dip in school motivation during spring
for their teenagers?

My son who was finally, for the first time in his life, was achieving close to his potential, until about 3 weeks ago. Is it just Spring fever?

1. I dunno..
... but my kid is pretty sure he aced his first AP exam yesterday!

But yes, I think motivation starts ramping down as soon as the second semester starts :)

2. Yes and no
Mine has been busier...I don't think he's been home long enough to do more than sleep and shower in the past few months, between band and baseball and school...and his grades have suffered, which sucks.

But he knows that if the grades suffer too much, baseball goes...so he keeps at it.

Baseball's over now.

When he wakes up, I'll let you know...

3. My dear KitchenWitch!
It's been sooo long since my girls were teenagers, I no longer remember, sorry!

Just wanted to stick my head in here to say hello, and I'm sorry your son is seemingly less motivated!

Hope it is just spring fever, sweetie! :loveya:

5. Well, he is busier since he is on the baseball team
And does not have a study hall this term. So maybe that is it.

16. Seriously, I was born with 'senioritis.'
It kicked in during Kindergarden. Maybe it all started as a rebellion against the evil nun. Ruined school for life or something.

12. i don't think you need to be a parent to answer
don't you remember when you were a student? The year is so close to being over, it's torture to have to keep studying.

13. Called my daughter on it last night
Checked her grades on line last night and noticed some problems sneaking in. Prom is coming up and taking up a lot of discussions.

14. It's probably just spring fever
My son gets it every year, only this year it's "senioritis". He's supposed to be done in 4 weeks, but he's really pushing his luck w/ his grades these days. He needs a 93 in English this term to graduate w/ his class. I hope he can pull it off.

15. It happens...
I know when the weather starts getting warmer, the last thing I want to do is be inside studying or going to class. A game of frisbee with friends is a much more attractive alternative. At least in college you are done in May, I remember being in high school in June when it was just swelteringly hot and counting down the seconds until school was over, and I was a good student. So I think it is a universal problem

17. Yes.
It happened to my daughter every year. Even this year - one year out of school - she's got distinct spring fever.

However, I can't be too indulgent with her this time. She quit her job two months ago and has made very, very, very little effort to find another one. She's been living with us rent free and has not been in school (She wants to go to the College of the Redwoods this fall, and she expects us to just pay for it - and she's not making ANY effort to earn money. I don't think so!). My husband has told her she needs to start paying rent in June, so she'd better get out there and get a job. Tons of places are hiring, but when all the college kids get out of school and snap up the summer jobs, she'll be out of luck. Her boyfriend just got a job at Dairy Queen. They both want to move to CA and go to Redwoods. Methinks they'll need more than just his wages from DQ. Oy. :eyes:

I'm sorry...I seem to have gone off on a tangential rant. What was the question again? :P
