Dave Bromberg
Has there ever been a better acoustical guitarist? No one I've ever heard....

4. True, Kottke has a unique 12 string sound.
But he can't compete with Bromberg...man was a virtuoso guitarist.

7. What Bromberg record do you recomend...
...as a showcase of his guitar skills.

I used to have a copy of "You Should See The Rest Of The Band" and I don't remember getting excited about his guitar work.

8. There are so many great albums.
First, he was a studio axeman for lots of people. George Harrison, Jerry Jeff Walker.
Intersetingly, the entire Greatful Dead backed him up on his 1st album.

OK, find a version of "Don't Let Your Deal Go Down".....if that don't convince you, nothing will.

9. and he's a nice man.
kind of off-subject, but my friend Myra atended the School of Violin-making in Chicago with him in the early eighties... in fact, she lived with him, his wife, and baby, in the ground/basement level of his Chicago brownstone exchanging baby-sitting and (i think) light housekeeping services for rent. I went out there to visit her for a week. He wasn't around much, but one nite he took us to a club to see Taj Mahal (one of my favorites) and he got on stage and played a few songs with him. It was a long tme ago, i just remember he was down-to-earth and unpretentious (that's redundant, I guess).

I also saw Bromberg play with Bonnie Raitt back in '79 or '80, in Binghamton, NY. Lonnnnnnnng time ago....

12. Very cool.
I went to see him play in Portland, Me. for his 50th birthday concert at the State Theater. I hung out after the concert with the entire band at the Top of the East accross the street. A night to remember.

He plays folk, counrty, blues, bluegrass, jazz, rock...
The man plays it all!
I love "THe New Lee Highway Blues".

He and Clarence "Big Man" Clemons played in Jerry Jeff Walker's band in the late 60's.

17. Funny thing
JJ Walker, was a really popular in 1971......hardly anyone knew Bromberg. Mr. Bojangles and "Up Against the Wall Redneck Mother" were quite popular, but Bromberg was not well know at that time. I think he cam into his own with "Midnight on the Water".
