Double cheeseburger, fries, and a coke----$.67.
I'm watching Divorce, American Style (1967). Dick Van Dyke's character goes to MacDonald's and shells out a whopping $.67 for his dinner. I can't help but laugh when I watch older movies that show how much things cost back then. I don't remember the name of the movie, but there is an old Humphrey Bogart movie where he is driving across the desert and his gas gage is shown on empty. He pulls into a lone desert gas station, tells the guy to fill up his tank, and goes inside to make a phone call. When he comes back out he hands the guy a one dollar bill and says, "keep the change". I love it!

3. I Notice Those Things Too... It's Interesting To Note The Differences...
Recently I was watching an episode of Bewitched (of course) and when Samantha was in the grocery store there were hand-painted posters with the daily specials include lettuce 15-cents a head, pork chops 69-cents a pound, ketchup 20-cents a bottle, etc etc.

5. "The Spy Who Came In from the Cold"
Richard Burton's character goes into a grocer's and buys a huge bag of food, including but not limited to a jar of Noreigean caviar, canned California peaches, a bottle of Dewar's and a loaf of fresh bread. The total is 3/8 (three shillings eightpence), which was about $1.25.

4. In "The Cat in the Hat Comes Back"
there is a line about the stain on "Dad's $10 shoes" that just kills me. I would love to spend just $10 on a pair of shoes.

6. I remember the days when my dad would ask for a dollars worth of gas
I used to have a photo somewhere from the late 60's, early 70's of a local gas station and the price on the pump was .29 a gallon, I think. Wish I could find that photo.

9. In the early '70s there was a commercial
for Gulf (I think) gasoline. Teenager pulls up to the pump with his girlfriend in his hot rod, and the attendant comes out (more nostalgia) and says, "Fill 'er up?" Guy says, "No, give me 50 cents worth of Gulf premium (or whatever)." As his girlfriend chides him for how little he spends on her, he explains that he just spent $10 on his gas pedal, one of those chrome "surfer foot" ones.

Meanwhile, the attendant's checking the oil, washing the windshield, etc. Girlfriend says, "Wow, he's really doing it up, isn't he?" and the guy goes, "This is embarrassing." Then, to her, "Got a quarter?" and she says, "I'll check and see" and starts rooting around in her purse.

Finally, the attendant comes back to the window and the guy goes, "Hey, mister? Could you give me another 25 cents worth of Gulf premium?" The attendant pauses, grins and goes, "Very good."

Guy gets all haughty and goes, "Good man." Girlfriend goes, "And you're a big spender."

There were two scenes where they stopped for a gas fillup, and were charged about a dollar each time. Each time, the audience groaned!

P.S. McDonalds actually did an ad campaign based on how you could order a meal and get change back from your dollar!

14. Okay--this is a giveaway, but
I remember gas at 19 cents a gallon (in Texas) when I was a little kid. I also remember a friend who would put 25 cents worth of gas in his car and that would actually get him somewhere. I remember being in school and going for 15 cent hamburgers and 12 cent fries at Mickey-D's....
