40. Then I shall splain
An un-modulated (no voice, music, etc.) AM radio signal looks sorta like this:

/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\

(The pointy parts aren't that pointy, but I have limited resources here.)

The length of a single wave — one /\ — varies with the signal's frequency, i.e. 1240 kHz, 94.5 mHz, etc. On the 11-meter band, which is about 27.5 megahertz, a wave is just over 36 feet long. The lower the frequency, the longer the wave.

Aren't you glad you know this now? :silly:

66. Aha! It's a surveyor's measurement
http://www.unc.edu/~rowlett/units/dictC.html

chain (ch)
a unit of distance formerly used by surveyors. The traditional British surveyor's chain, also called Gunter's chain because it was introduced by the English mathematician Edmund Gunter (1581-1626) in 1620, is 4 rods long: that's equal to exactly 1/80 mile, 1/10 furlong, 22 yards, or 66 feet (20.1168 meters). The traditional length of a cricket pitch is 1 chain. Gunter's chain has the useful property that an acre is exactly 10 square chains. The chain was divided into 100 links. American surveyors sometimes used a longer chain of 100 feet, known as the engineer's chain or Ramsden's chain. (However, Gunter's chain is also used in the U.S.; in fact, it is an important unit in the Public Lands Survey System.) In Texas, the vara chain of 2 varas (55.556 ft) was used in surveying Spanish land grants. In the metric world, surveyors often use a chain of 20 meters (65.617 ft). See also shackle and shot <2> for anchor chain lengths.

It sounded like NOTHING was exactly what you needed!

Yesterday I was bagged, but that was ok, as it was Kentucky Derby day, so my morning consisted of watching the prep races, afternoon was watching it, then DU'ing..then I watched two fabulous documentaries called "Born into Brothels" and "March of the Penguins". (I love my local library, I don't need to rent movies/DVD's, I just go there instead...for free)

Today, I went to church, and tonight there's a meeting there...so, all in all, not much for me either. :bounce:

117. There is a genuine north-south thing.
But this is mostly me messing with him.

It's very different from that in the U.S. and in certain senses is reversed - plus those of us in the South-East frequently apply our thoughts as being "southern" whilst they're as alien to the South-West as they are to the North.

By any reasonable definition, billy lives in the South, but I'm a tad bit further South than he - hence this map:

You're the same height as my daughter the lawyer. Funny, she grew two or three inches after she was out of high school. My youngest daughter seems to be doing the same thing. They're the tall ones, and me and my oldest girl are the shorties of the family. We don't look like we belong together.

137. cubit:
Cubit is the name for any one of many units of measure used by various ancient peoples. The natural cubit is based on the distance between thumb and another finger to the elbow on an average person. It was employed consistently — to measure originally cords and textiles for example — also in Middle-Ages up to the Early Modern Times. This natural cubit measures 24 digits or 6 palms or 1½ foot. This is about 45 cm or 18 inches.

(I enjoy wikipedia)
