Fucking Insurance Companies
I just opened my mail and I got a letter from my insurance telling me that they don't cover the surgical procedure that I was/am going to have done. They do cover the more complicated, more expensive, and the one that requires a longer recovery period though. Is it just me, but wouldn't it make more sense to allow someone to choose the surgery that is a one day procedure and that you can go home afterward rather than the one that you have to stay in the hospital for 3 days after. Man am I pissed. I will be calling in the morning, I guess there is a way to appeal this.

1. I tried to cancel one I signed up for...
They hire people to man the "cancel" lines so they can psychologically pressure you into keeping it.

Takes a while, but the fuckers can be told off.

2. I don't want to cancel
and it is the only one that I have access for because it is thru my wife, but still I am a nurse, I know how much it costs to stay in the hospital, so it just makes more sense to me to allow the option of getting the other procedure.

3. They've got another letter just in case you chose the other procedure.

4. Don't take no for an answer.
Sometimes they have a sweetheart deal with the surgeons or hospitals doing the other procedures although they won't call it that. They will call it "preferred provider". Get your doctor involved and maybe your state regulatory agency if there is a decent one where you live.

5. That is the thing
The hospital that I am going to is the only game in town. They are the only ones doing this particular procedure.
