2. Can be either viral or bacterial
both are pretty damn nasty to get rid of, I believe the viral version is more deadly due to less drugs to treat it.

Basically the disease causing vector enters the spinal fluid and causes the infection.

5. it's the other way around re deadliness...
Viral (aka "aseptic") meningitis is less deadly.

Bacterial (septic) meningitis is notorious for striking down healthy young people literally within hours of the very first symptom.

I had meningitis, but I recovered. Even so, it was a couple of years before I regained full range of motion in my neck.

It's a nasty disease all around.

6. Yes, my little sister had viral
She spent a few days in the hospital, but she recovered. Still, she seems to get sick easier nowadays.

8. My father had it once....the bacterial variety.
He lived through it. The infectious disease specialist said he could have picked up the bacteria any way, there is no way of knowing. It was totally random.

It's a very vicious and scary disease. Started with a headache.

9. Hey, why aren't you asleep?
If you are tired you might be fighting something. Not menengitis, I hope.

You OK?

11. Per the original post, I was looking up a bandmember of
C+C Music Factory. The guy died rather young, and spinal meningitis is somewhat rare...

I am fatigued, but nothing major. Just overstress and work; it will pass and improve.

12. I had viral meningitis/encephalitis back in 1980...
Edited on Mon May-08-06 11:39 PM by Blue_In_AK
The doctor told me it's basically like any other cold or flu virus, it just happens to lodge in your spinal or brain fluid. That was undoubtedly the worst headache I've EVER had in my life. It lasted about three weeks, and then I had nerve damage in my arms that didn't go away completely for a couple of years. It felt like I had tight rubber bands around both of my elbows, and my forearms were cold and tingly, and I couldn't do anything that required small motor movement in my fingers. It was so bad that I couldn't even type more than two lines at a time, and I had to completely drop out of my legal secretarial profession for a couple of years until I could get my strength back. Meningitis is a bad disease.
