Maximum freakout over everything
Here I am, pondering applying for a job with a large oil company (maximum freakout), with terrific salary and benefits, including insurance (which we need badly because the s.o. was just turned down for no discernable reason). I have a real shot at this gig, if I pass the drug test (maximum freakout). If I don't, I'll also lose my contract gig (maximum freakout), and the s.o. will most likely get tossed out as well (we work at the same company, long story and maximum freakout).

So I'm pretty much freaking out up here. I could deal with renting myself to the petrochemical sector for a year or two, so we can save some $$ to escape to Costa Rica or something like that. We need the insurance, and to hell if I have to stop smoking - I can still drink. But I'm REALLY freaking out.

1. stop smoking
sheesh, it shouldn't even be an issue - and might help with your "maximum freakouts"

2. I already have
I guess I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by life in general, and the job/insurance situation in particular...

The idiot thing is that the s.o. needs the insurance a lot more than I do, and we're still not clear why a denial letter was issued. I got in no problem. It's one more effing thing I need to handle. I'm usually pretty good at necessary things, but there's just too many of 'em.

And the thought of working for a petro company gives me the heebie jeebies more than somewhat.

3. We didn't make the world..
... but we have to live in it.

Go to a shop and get a "detox" kit and use it. Get the damn job. Nobody here who has a heart in their breast will hold it against you. you should forgive yourself in advance.

Good luck.
