My cholesterol is very high... I probably will have to get on medication- high cholesterol runs in my family... but what are some things I can do to help keep it down?

1. Oatmeal (whole oats, specifically)
Two bowls of oatmeal every day - it can really help!

2. I read that if you drink orange juice every morning that will help
so I now buy orange juice for my husband.

Also, exercise regularly, don't eat too much bad fat, eat a small amount of good fat (like olive oil) every day, and eat veggies and complex carbs.

3. Eat a plant based diet with lots of fiber and soy if you tolerate it well.
Try incorporating some ground flax or hemp seeds into baked goods or blending them into smoothies, they add fiber and EFAs.

4. Policosinol (sp?)
You can find it in the supplement department of most natural food stores. My mother takes it and when I worked at a natural food store, many customers found it helpful.
