Show of hands: Who doesn't even GO to the GD forum anymore?
I got sick of the endless bitch-slapping and bad-rapping done to ALL the candidates (not just mine)sometime around october. I might glance at a couple topics, but I refuse to post there anymore or get involved in what seem more like flamewars for the sake of a flamewar. Hell, even READING some of the "Clark is evil"/ "Dean is evil" threads makes me nauseous.

I'm a Deanie, but I never ever call out a Clarkie for the stupid reasons I see others do. In fact, I think Clark is a great guy, too. What is with the passionate flaming going on over there?

Anybody else not even treading into that den of iniquity anymore?

1. Me.
:hi:

It's pointless. All that hatred directed against our fellow Democrats when it should be channeled to the Right.

6. RKZ, I think all of us are in the Lounge now.
Or else in Meeting Room. I mean, those of us who have chosen a candidate but can't imagine having a mud wrestling match about it, no matter which candidate we've chosen.

I only read GD threads that come off the 'Latest' page and don't have a candidate name in them -- and yeah, I've been doing that for a while. There's just no point beating your head against the monitor over and over.

10. That's true.
Well said. I'll go to LBN and read, might go to GD to see a topic without a candidate's name in the title, but when I go to GD, all I see are people with low post counts turning our party into a cage match.

11. I do go to LBN.
I also read the Editorials forum. Occasionally, you'll actually find a non-flamefest thread there about a candidate with some legitimate information or insight in it.

12. I do go there...
I'm new to the site so I find it sort of interesting, although yes I am getting bored with the Dean and Clark bashing. I am leaning toward Clark myself, just because I feel he's more of an open book and not so hard for the GOP to demonize.

But I got no problems with Dean. I KNOW that whoever the eventual nom is, he will get the support of everyone, or almost everyone.

I like the feature where you can hide tiresome threads!

13. Selectively post to GD
There are some worthwhile discussions, but you have to work around the flame wars. I wind up posting in GD about 2x a week.

You have to dip your toe in it for a while to get used to it. Then you have to dive right in.

I'm still adjusting to the current temperature though. :D

I mostly access DU through the latest page, where there's threads from all the sections. I also go to the lounge and GD.

The candidate vs candidate threads don't usually bother me.

18. I used to, don't ever go there now.
The posts are all predictable. Maybe a year from now when the elections are history there might be something worth reading. Another reason, I started a topic there once that I am sure would have motivated a few rabid individuals who replied to kick my ass judging by their reaction. They take themselves way too seriously.

20. I go there
I've been lurking around for a couple of years, don't post much. I am getting somewhat more selective on the threads I revisit for updates, but have gained a lot of important information. I feel like Sharpton hit the nail on the head when he said we needed to get all the questions out in the open and on the table so we can all be on the same page when everything is said and done and we have a Democratic candidate. All these questions and "flame bait" have a purpose right now and I don't mind at all. Now if this continues after the primaries are over, we have a real problem.

23. That's true, but....
Some of what we see posted on GD is pure disinfo, designed to keep us infighting. I'm thinking specifically about the "Clark was a Waco player" or "Clark was a war criminal" threads a while back. Even as a Deaner, I knew to stay the HELL away from those threads, cuz, they were nothing but bullshit.

And then the confederate flag thing....Jeez, that was painful to witness! In fact, a lot of the attacks on candidates are based on non-substantive issues like a candidate's demeanor or things like that. We should be looking at a candidate's voting record, his spending record, and his policies, and not let all this disinformation and static cloud our progress towards the WH.

just to see why I prefer to be here in the Lounge. Personally, I just don't care anymore about who supports whom. I like to keep my eyes on the bigger picture.

27. Seriously, I think a lot of people in GD are political newbies.
They think getting the nomination is victory. They don't realise that after that we all have to rally round the candidate. If there's too many battle scars, that makes the process a hell of a lot more difficult.

28. Update:
I thought I'd give it one last try in GD, when I saw that Skinner had started this "daily Democrat" thread, and asked us to post ONLY POSITIVE messages about a certain weekly candidate. Today it as Dean, and I posted what I thought about him- all positive! But STILL there are people who HAD to get their digs in, who HAD to flame the guy, even in violation of Skinner's very smart and well-intentioed rules.

This just proves my point..screw GD, I'm stayin' here.
