Thoughts on "make your own Karaoke"-type software?
One of my students bought some software that purports to remove the vocals from recordings. However, the one she used left the reverb/echo effects behind. (The track in question is Natasha Bedingfield's "Wild Horses".) Does anybody have any recommendations for her for good software for this sort of task (pointless as it may be)?

2. My mom had a stereo that had this feature...
...and yeah, that's what'd happen a lot of times. I'm not sure you can completely get rid of it. I have this hunch that it's got something to do with leaving in stuff where the left & right channels are slightly off from each other, but I'm not sure. If there's a way to get it down to mono first that might help, but like I said I'm not sure.

3. There is nothing that will get rid of the vocals completely
Removal software only removes a certain frequency in the middle of the stereo mix. When effects are used on a vocal track they are sometimes panned to the left and the right and those sounds end up staying in the recording. Most of the time other instruments will also be affected if they are within that frequency and panned in the middle.

4. That's what I aleady knew...
But I thought I'd ask in case there was one program that was marginally better than the others. Besides, I told her I would look into it. :)
