What do you see when you look out the window?
G'head...go look. I'll wait.

I see mountains and the treetops and the sunset. If I look a little closer, I can see Garden of the Gods.

I love to people-watch but can't see any from here. Just the goofs that are cooped up in here with me.

7. Nope. In a little bit my across-the-street neighbor will be outside
to let the dog do his business, but at the moment other than the occasional car going by it's quiet. Because of the way the neighborhood is laid out we get no through traffic on this street, so it's really quite still outside most of the time.

13. Oh, that sounds nice
I love quiet neighborhoods. Mine used to be...but the kids that were all sweet little adorable babies when I moved there -- have morphed into teenagers.

:scared:

They're putting one of those noise walls up behind me...at least that's what they Say it is. I'm thinking it might be to contain those same....*ahem*....young adults.

30. We have plenty of teenagers around
But most of them are around the bend in the road, close enough to call them up when we need to hire somebody to mow the lawn, but far enough that we can't hear thier basketball games and loud car stereos. It's a nice street.

36. Sounds like it is nice
I wish the ones on my street lived a little farther away.

Like Kansas. I've got the skateboard contingent. And they compete with the dirt bike dervishes to see who can make the most noise up and down the street.

At 11:00.

On a Monday night.

40. Our only skateboarder grew up and moved away years ago,
back when I was still a kid. Can't say I ever minded the clattering though, it was kinda neat how he'd be out there by himself practicing tricks, and he was a nice quiet kid who was really hard to dislike.

Never just one or two. More like six and up.

And they're punks. I'm usually one to live and let live, but these kids get pissed off at people for driving down the street...they're usually spread all across it and are obnoxious to drivers.

But I can't grow 'em. Except for lilacs. Those I can't seem to kill. My grandmother had camellias and I always adored them.

I did manage to keep a gardenia bush alive for years...but azaleas? Nope.

44. I probably couldn't keep them alive either.
But these are "mature" hedges that came with the place. The azaleas are around 8 feet tall and the camellias are between 10 and 15 feet tall.

I also have some 15 feet high rhododendrons, but those aren't fully in bloom yet. Some of them are late summer/fall bloomers.

48. Yes and no.
They do get messy.

I went on a garden tour recently that was in my neighborhood. One of the very lovely gardens was at a home owned by a very sweet older lady. As she conducted the tour, she stopped along the way and picked up blooms that had fallen.

Huh. I didn't realize I was supposed to pick them up! Holy shit! I'd be out there all freakin' day! I usually wait until they turn brown and start to clump together as some basic form of compost before I remove them from the ground.

Btw, I do love lilacs. My neighbors on one side of me have lilacs around two borders of their property. I really admire them, because the one lilac bush that I planted two years ago just sits there forlornly, never doing a damned thing.

Which is why I like mature plantings.

50. Heh...
That's kind of the way I am with my roses. When the blossoms fall and land on the porch, I kinda push them into the planter and tell myself that it's good for the plant. Holds in moisture. Keeps the frost off.

But then, I can rationalize anything if I try hard enough...

61. The white, gable-roofed "little barn"
surrounded by 4 board, white, horse paddocks. Lots of green grass.

Just beyond that I can see in the distance, the "big barn", a true Kentucky style horse barn, white with green shutters and a red roof. This farm used to be the training farm for the original family's thoroughbreds. The family that built this place (not us) had an identical breeding farm in Kentucky and styled many of the buildings on their sister farm in Lexington.

Decades ago, the original owners of this farm trained their Kentucky Derby winner at this farm, Lucky Debonair, ridden by Willie Shoemaker.

Go Barbaro!

They never have to worry about losing power when we have our occasional wind storms. There is usually one every Thanksgiving in an outlying city which means a bunch of people can't cook a turkey. It's almost always the lead story on the day after T-giving!

and their leaves are supposed to be antibiotic and good for you in other ways. We use neem toothpaste, soap, and facial masks. The only bad thing about neem trees is that in Spring they have small white flowers that smell good but nearly kill my husband with allergies, and make me a little allergic, too.

It can mask so many of the ugly things out there. And, when it lifts, it reveals some of the most beautiful things we'll ever see. It's like turning the page. There's always something new on the other side of it.

There. That was my profound thought for the day.

146. Almost total darkness.

The moon has already slipped over the horizon. The silhouettes of trees are barely visible against the cloudy night sky.

When I lived in Los Angeles, I missed the squirrels.

Now, some days....Noisy little guys sometimes, ain't they?

Still, noisy or not, I wouldn't trade 'em for anything.

They make my cats crazy. They'll come and sit on the window ledge and chatter and shriek at 'em until the cats launch themselves at the glass.

And then, I swear, they go about three feet back, sit down again and laugh their little squirrely asses off...

200. I don't have any windows at work. One of many reasons why
I fucking hate this place.

At home I can see the street, the stop sign, cars parked and trees. Nothing very exciting, although I do live on a pretty street. During the winter I can see downtown Chicago but the rest of the year the trees obscure that view.

I'm jealous of the OP. I would love to live somewhere with mountains.
