When it comes to credit cards, better safe than sorry.
Yesterday, I went to my optician to have a new pair of glasses made. I planned on paying with my credit card. Their computers were down, so they wrote my card number down on my chart and told me that, after they got my transaction completed, they would "white out" my credit card number. This made me feel very uneasy. I woke up several times last night worrying about this. :scared: "White out" can be scrapped off.

So, this morning, I called the credit card company and had this card canceled and a new one issued with the balance transfered to the new card. I know that the chances of someone actually scraping the white out off and getting my card number is one in a thousand, but with everything you hear about identity theft and stolen credit card numbers, I decided to err on the side of caution.

When I made the call, the rep was very nice and told me I was doing the right thing. I feel better now.

1. Absolutely. It's all about your piece of mind.

2. I don't blame you
I honestly feel uncomfortable every time I'm in a restaurant and pay with a credit card and they take it away to process. A couple of years ago, they caught some staff in an area restaurant stealing credit card numbers just that way so I don't like letting them out of my sight. Call me paranoid but yeah - better safe than salami.

5. Sometimes it's the people
you would least suspect who will rip you off. It's a shame we have to guard our information so aggressively. But it's a fact of life in today's world.:evilfrown:
