Friday Bowie thread: Worst Bowie album?
i love Dave, but let's admit it: there are lowlights.

my worst:

1. Tonight
2. Earthling
3. Let's Dance (cue the controversy, but i hate the production on that record)
4. Black Tie White Noise
5. Never Let Me Down

the last 2 aren't fair because i never even heard them.

1. Let's Dance
He should have followed Monty Python's lead and called it the Contractual Obligation Album. :puke:

9. Shoulda called it "Introducing Stevie Ray."
And Nile Rodgers ain't too shabby with the rhythm guitar, either.

Don't be hatin' on Let's Dance.

2. You really need to separate early career and late career.
The cut-off point for me would be "Let's Dance." I hate the production on "Let's Dance," too. Always have.

8. Yowza--you said it exactly!
What do David Bowie and John Lennon have in common?

Neither has recorded any good new music since 1980.

Here's my list:

1. Never Let Me Down
2. Tonight
3. Black Tie White Noise
4. Does his stuff on Absolute Beginners count?
5. What about "When The Wind Blows" then?

With apologies to John Lennon, of course!

4. Tonight.
Let's Dance is redeemed by some solid guitar work from Stevie Ray Vaughan and a few decent songs (the cover of 'China Girl' is the high point of that album).

I actually like Earthling, but then I like techno/electronica (and I also happen to think Reeves Gabrels is a very underrated guitarist). And 1. Outside (which veers into industrial and drum 'n bass) is one of my favourite albums of the '90's.

12. Oh, I love 'China Girl' and 'Modern Love'
Anybody else remember when Bowie headlined the US Festival (damn I'm old) in support of 'Let's Dance'?

The rest of the album leaves me cold. I'm not too wild about 'Glass Spider', either. I won't even comment on 'Tin Machine'.

5. Never Let Me Down
I saw him on that tour, too. Peter Frampton was the music director-- which was really the only good thing about it. Pretentious, overblown, sounded like he'd phoned it in. And a bunch of distracting "dancers" on the stage to cover up the fact that his heart was not in it.

Even the covers of his 70s stuff were lackluster.

6. Never Let Me Down
I was really disappointed when that came out. I think I was a junior in high school and I was so excited to buy the new Bowie album, and I listened to it and thought, "He did this?"
