2. An omelet would be awesome.

I like to look around in the refrigerator to see if any of my leftovers would taste good minced up in it. Yum!

:(

Tomorrow is shopping day and there is not much left in my fridge.

I can put mushrooms and cheese in an omelet.

12. That sounds yummy.

I would open a can of black olives and add bout 1/2 of 'em.
I didn't make it to the grocery store this afternoon. I think we're eating Ronzoni's Ricotta & Spinach Tortellonis with Emeril's Puttanesca sauce. I keep extras on the shelf.

5. Omelot
Faster to make, and not as many carbs. OTOH spaghetti lasts for a couple-three meals, and tastes better the next day.

I'm not much help, am I? :+

8. Don't forget the smidgen of water (not milk)
And fresh ground pepper if you have it. Wait for the butter-foam to subside!

(sorry if you already knew all that)

16. Because then it's creamy scrambled eggs
Or with more milk, French-toast batter. If it's an omelet, a tsp or so of water.

Mmm, French toast...

22. If the bread isn't stale, you can
dry it in a 250 oven. Soaks up the batter better.

(oops, we're back to carbs again. And more time. Sorry! :hi:)

33. You know the funniest thing about Denny's?
They print the price for the Grand Slam at $4.99 or something, but then they offer the $2.99 special price, but only "between the hours of 6 am and 2 am".

I guess they don't do it the other way, so as not to piss off the 3 am drunk people* by surprising them with the full price, but I always thought that was kinda odd and backerds.

*present company excluded :hi:

23. Nah, simple recipe:
ingredients list

* 4 large Eggs, separated
* 125 g Cheddar Cheese, grated coarsely
* 2 tblspn Extra Light Olive Oil
* 1/4 tspn Black Pepper
* 1 tspn Mixed Herbs
* 1 tblspn Parsley Flakes
* 1 Lemon, rind finely grated
* 200 g Mushrooms, sliced
* 1 clove Garlic Clove, crushed

cooking method

1. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in 28cm diameter heavy based non stick fry pan. Gently sauté mushrooms with garlic and lemon rind until tender. Season with pepper. Remove from pan.
2. Whip egg whites with pinch of salt in a clean bowl until stiff peaks form. Beat in yolks, mixed herbs and parsley.
3. Wipe out pan. Heat further 1 tablespoon oil. Pour 1/2 egg mixture into pan, swirl around to cover base. Cook over moderate heat without stirring for 3 to 4 minutes or until golden brown underneath and just set in centre.
4. Top with 1/2 grated cheese. Spoon half mushrooms onto one side of omelette.
5. Using a spatula to assist, fold omelette in half to enclose mushrooms. Gently slide omelette from pan to warm serving plate.
6. Heat remaining oil in same pan. Repeat process with remaining egg, cheese and mushrooms. Serve immediately with hot buttered toast.

If there is lemon rind in there, can I use lemon olive oil instead of regular olive oil? I don't have regular olive oil.

32. Sure.
Cooking is just another way to improvise. Get the basics and feel free to dance around them. Make it to your liking, and it'll be great!

I consider myself a decent cook, but I always say after I made something pretty nice: "I just heated the stuff up." :P

I picked up only in the last few years, so I'm still pretty tentative about experimenting. :)

37. It is a skill,
but it's still creative. And in the end, you have to eat it, so better be creative with any recipes if you don't like an ingredient or something. It's fun! Just taste it always during the process. With the basic recipe given, you can't do anything wrong. Substitute the stuff you don't like with things you do like. If you don't like parsley, use chives ...

:P

I need to start being brave about being creative. I'm always afraid I'll make something horrible and it'll go to waste.

42. You won't make something horrible.
You know what you like, and you can always ask others what they like and play along on it. The most horriblke thing I made recently was curried bananas. Not because it was bad (I liked it), but my tummy was my biggest enemy for a few days afterwards. ;)
