So I had to pay a bill online while taking my kid to swim practice...
So I put my kid first and risked the late payment, getting her to practice on time. While at the pool, I whipped out my laptop, and low and behold (whatever lowing and beholding are) I find a wireless signal. So I logged onto my account and tried to pay the bill, but I had to call the bank for some reason. So I whipped out my cheap pay-as-you-go Virgin Mobile cell phone and gave 'em a jangle (well, phones don't really jangle, but you know what I mean). Settled the matter in a couple of minutes.

So let me recap. I just paid a bill while sitting at a table beside a swimming pool while a cool breeze rippled gently across my scalp (you know, at one time I had hair). The next person who tries to tell me about the "good old days" is going to get a look of ridiculing scorn. These are the good old days!

Okay, back to watching my kid try to swim. (Yes, that means I typed this sitting beside the pool, too. Ah, for a Rita. And I don't mean the drink, necessarily...)

3. I'm glad that works for you.
But I still prefer paying my bills ahead of time and by mail. I don't wait until the last minute to pay bills. <wearing my flame proof suit>

4. I ONLY pay bills over the net.
They get posted right away. No lost mail, no late charges.

5. In 20+ yrs of bill paying
I've never had a bill lost in the mail and no late charges.
It's whatever works for you.

6. Wow. That is impressive. What started me paying bills over the net
was our mailman's *ahem* interesting way of delivering the mail. I would sit down to pay the bills and discover the Amex bill was missing or the gas bill or the light bill.

The topper was when we went out of town for three weeks and came back to a pile of mail 1 inch tall. In three weeks? No way. I still shudder to think what got misplaced.

7. It would be interesting to look inside that mailman's closet!
Probably piled high with all the mail he didn't feel like delivering. I've heard of those stories before. Hey! Maybe it was your carrier!

8. I don't know. Sometimes I miss the old crank and holler...
I still remember when I was a kid I used to pick up the phone only to hear the latest gossip between two old ladies who lived not far from us in the neighborhood. A few minutes passed by before they caught on that they were not the only ones speaking on the phone. Bet bush would love to get onto those old phones :)
