:grr: NO YOU DO NOT! I swear people do not know how to drive! I was trying to get home today after lunch, but apparently someone didn't want me to. Everyone kept making COMPLETE FUCKING STOPS before making RIGHT TURNS. Where did this come from?! I make them all the time by just slowing down a little, freak!

2. WTF?!
I never did. Made a 95, and that's only because I forgot to signal when leaving the curb after parking downhill.

11. Someone was in the middle of a block, turning onto another street...
Edited on Fri May-12-06 06:47 PM by YellowRubberDuckie
It wasn't like there was anyone walking or there were any obstructions. Normal. Right. Turn.

17. Yes, I know....
But I wasn't talking about at a light. It was the middle of a block. No light, new development, no stop sign.

27. I know EXACTLY what you mean, Rubberduckie!
They do it here in NC, too, and I checked to see where you were from to see if you were HERE!

I am from Northern Va, and I guess you have to experience it firsthand to know what you are speaking of.
In all my years of driving, I never encountered it until I moved to NC.

Before entering a driveway or making ANY right turn, the drivers will almost come to a stop to make the turn. There is no stop sign, no light, no oncoming traffic to make this necessary.

The other thing they do here which drives me up the friggin wall is to begin to slow down before coming to a light...oh, about 100 feet before getting to the car which is slowing down at the same rate of speed in front of them....which is also slowing down at the same rate of speed in front of THEM.

Of course, you are trying to get into the special lane turning left, so you NEVER manage to get there, in time even though nobody is in the lane, and there are only a couple of cars going straight ahead.

4. In Quebec, you have to.
Everytime I witness what you're describing, I yell at the driver in front of me "GO BACK TO QUEBEC!!!"

Usually it's some retired farmer from West Pissfart, North Dakota.

7. Not where I live.
Only if you have a sign on the stoplight indicating "RIGHT TURN STOP ON RED".

8. Here you do.
Of course in urban California you're probably a bit more likely to be creamed by oncoming traffic if you don't check first, simply because there are so many more people.

A rolling stop will get you a ticket most places.

26. Actually, if the light is green and a driver stops... its a ticketable
offense called impeding traffic.

completely before turning.

I'm talking IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BLOCK. No sign. No light. Turning into a neighborhood. Read the rest of the thread.

21. If they are turning onto a street with traffic, it sounds like they're
just being cautious. You didn't mention no sign or light in your OP.

20. PEOPLE read the OP post carefully
Think: turning into your driveway -- do you stop before you do that? No. (well, unless somebody is walking in front of your driveway... then you might slow down a little bit...)

law... it reenforces good, safe, driving habits.
