"We are a very casual work environment, so the suit is not necessary!"
That's the final sentence of the e-mail I received confirming my job interview. The job sounds so perfect for me (right down to its 20-minute reverse commute) I must have written the description in my sleep. I'm so determined to make a good impression, I'm even planning to wash my car!

But seriously, folks, I know it's important to take this "no suit necessary" thing seriously, especially since the company is young-minded and high tech. I'm sure that if I show up in the traditional dark matching (skirt) suit, I'll look like a fuddy-duddy who fears thinking out of the box. So I'm thinking that the way to go is business casual. I'll wear my suit jacket, but I'll add constrasting slacks and low-heeled shoes instead of a matching skirt and pumps, plus a shirt in a color other than white. How does that sound?

1. I'd wear well-pressed khaki slacks....
A navy blazer and perhaps a light-blue shirt. Loafers or some other kind of low-heeled shoes.

Take the no suit necessary thing seriously. I had an interview like that almost 10 years ago...felt like an idiot, but the company insisted. I didn't get the job, but corporate dress has relaxed LOTS in the last 10 years.

Good luck.

2. Sounds good...but how formal is the jacket and
will it look OK with the pants? Some jackets will work fine, others won't. Good luck on the interview.
