I'm out of Big Tobacco cigarettes
Nothin' but make-yer-own for me now. Half the cost and little of the carcinogenic crap added by the mofos to enhance addiction.

Funny thing is, I smoke fewer of these.

I know its not my business. I hate to be preachy, but I saw what my old man went through dying from Lung Cancer and it sucks.

 My grandfather also died of lung cancer, but his was caused by working in the coal mines.

10. I appreciate your concern
And I'm sorry about your dad. But, damn, it's not like every smoker doesn't know it as well as they know their own name.

And anyway, this is a step toward that. Like I said, I smoke fewer of these — partly, I guess, because of the lack of chemicals and partly because I gotta sit down and make 'em. So we'll see what happens.

And in the meantime, they'll take more time to kill me.

4. Easier said than done for many of us
Though I don't disagree with you. I'm working on quitting, and it's a struggle. Maybe OR has the right idea -- get away from the chemicals they put in cigarettes that really put the hook in smokers.

8. CMW and I
smoke only additive-free American spirit. We have a little machine that injects the tobacco into filtered cigarette tubes, and not only do we smoke _much_ less than we did before, but this system is much less expensive than buying Big Tobacco products. If you ever decide to go this route, PM me or OR for suppliers.

11. Wasn't entirely my idea
Truth be told, it was my doctor's. She told me if I'm not gonna quit to switch to make-your-own because the tobacco's more pure. So I asked at the local cig store, but there wasn't much selection there. Then Mistress Heidi turned me on to this web site where you can buy all the accouterments to make your own, and I do thank her for it.

does help you cut back. They burn slower and they are less harsh. Also saves on gas running out to get a pack every time
your almost out.

20. It's one of my not-so-very-good qualities.
I curse the day I ever started, but back then, doctor's were advertising cigarettes on the teevee. And now I'm freakin' hooked hooked hooked, and I want to quit. I wish all the "I hate smoking" people would get together and pressure the medical community to come up with something that would be really quick and really effective in helping people quit. I've tried damned near everything, and yet I'm still smoking. Not as much, but still. I admire the hell out of people who have managed to quit and stay off them!

22. Better yet, perhaps
Why can't part of the outrageous tobacco tax subsidize quitting aids? They're doing this in Colorado now; you can get the patch for free.

It makes economic sense.

25. You never know what might make you quit.....
...and you probably want know now, until you have an epiphany. I enjoyed my cigs, and never had any intention of quitting. Of course I knew they were bad for my health, but I still smoked. When I met my current wife, she had been off cigs for a couple of years. One day, I came home, and she had a pack on the table she had just bought, and said that since I was smoking, she was kind of wanting to start again, so she bought a pack. Then and there, I threw my pack away, and the one she had. It hit me: I wasn't going to let my bad habit be responsible for someone else's bad habit. I don't know what it was, but I've never wanted one since.

41. Good.

If you're going to spend money on a habit you should enjoy it to the max.

When I occasionally smoke one Cherie's American Spirits it seems stronger than other cigarettes.

I usually stick to my cloves.

29. I never bothered with them
Loose tobacco seems to be much milder than the 'orrible shit they put in manufactured cigarettes, and of course, you tend to put far less in a rollie, or I did.

Filters are just a con, anyway. The only thing they accomplish is stopping you getting tar on your lip, which admittedly is uber-gross. :puke:

34. We smoke American Spirit
which, while now owned by RJR (I believe), is much milder than the tobacco in, for instance, Marlboros or Winstons. I also think unfiltered cigarettes are more likely to stain one's teeth and hands (not that I'm vain that way, ya understand. ;) )

40. If you want to try a really good roll-your-own tobacco...
Edited on Sun May-14-06 05:30 AM by Spider Jerusalem
I'd recommend Ramback (which is pure Turkish tobacco); there's no bite in the lungs at all when you inhale, even packed into a full-flavour filter tube, and it's got a wonderful taste (and the smoke is more aromatic than regular American-blend cigarettes). It's worth trying (and it works quite well blended with other tobaccos; mixing it with the American Spirit would probably result in a much better cigarette).

You can find it here (the only online retailer I know of that'll ship internationally): http://www.nationalguild.com/ZIGGYSTOBACCO.COM/Cigarette_Tobacco.html

31. Unfiltered smokes aren't THAT bad.
Unless they're Gauloises Caporals, that is. Those have to be the foulest things I've ever smoked in my life (and I smoked unfiltered Lucky Strikes, Camels, and Turkish Specials for several years before switching to filtered).

32. Your mileage may vary, of course,
but I hacked and coughed like crazy, the papers stuck to my lips and I got tobacco in my mouth when I've smoked unfiltered cigarettes.

35. Well...
the trick to not getting tobacco in your mouth is to tamp the cigarette on a thumbnail before you light it. And if your lips are dry, the paper won't stick. And you don't cough once you're used to the smoke (just like with regular cigarettes; the first cigarette I actually inhaled was a Marlboro Light, and IT made me cough like a TB patient).
