Mother's Day: I'm not a mother, _but_ (dial-up warning)
Edited on Sun May-14-06 05:58 AM by Heidi
two of the best kids in the world are my goddaughters. They're bright, funny, inquisitive and kind, and people like "my girls" are among the reasons I hope we can make this world a better place. :) On Mother's Day, I thank Sara and Luisa's mother (my sister-in-law) for bringing these two great kids into the world.

Here's a drawing our youngest goddaughter made for Call Me Wesley and me on our wedding day:

Here I am, polishing my goddaughter's toenails a few years ago.

Here, are "my girls," painting on my patio

3. I should thank all of the mothers who've shared their kids
childless-by-choice me, and saved me the expense of college tuition, costly medical, food and clothing expenses, not to mention a lot of frustration. Sara and Luisa always are very well-behaved when they're with us; their mom's assessment of this, "It's nice to know they have the potential to behave _somewhere_."

5. Hi, Starbucks Anarchist.
Funny story about our youngest goddaughter, Luisa, who hasn't had a typically religious upbringing:

When she was about five years old, she telephoned Call Me Wesley one evening, and asked, "Hey, what's this story about Adam and Eve and a snake?"

Call Me Wesley says, "Luisa, I think that's a question for your mother."

Luisa says, "I already asked her. She said I should call _you_ and ask."

 :spray:

They're away today, visiting their dad, but they'll no doubt return this evening to entertain us with stories of their weekend with dad.

9. Sometimes, I think we only hear about the _bad_ moms in this world,
so I think a reminder that there are lots and lots and lots of really good moms in the world, too. :)

How're you, Joani? :loveya:

17. I think there are far more good mothers in the world than bad ones.
We should all celebrate the good mothers.
And perhaps show a little more compassion as we help the rest learn to love and nurture their children well.

I'm doing okay, staying busy taking care of as much as possible before I start traveling this year.

and improve resources for women who don't know how to be good mothers or, because of poverty or lack of resources, _can't_ be good mothers. I agree with you completely, my friend. And free birth control for everyone who wants it! :loveya:

8. I love your pictures
Your wedding dress was beautiful! You and CMW are probably just what the kids need. My own grandmother filled a very important role in my life, if it hadn't been for her I don't know that I would still be here.

You just never know the role you fill for those kids. I'm glad they have you. :loveya:

10. Thank you, gf!
I didn't really have a wedding dress like that, but when the girls were little, they had some strange idea that I was a "hexe" ("witch" in German), probably because they'd never met a red-headed woman before, nor heard anyone speak English. So Luisa drew me the wedding dress she thought a witch ought to have: with lotsa hearts and moons. ("Witch" is a good thing, in these girls' upbringing, which I think is pretty cool.)

How's your weekend, OhioBlues?

11. What a neat story, cool kids to be sure.
I have been referred to as a witch by those who don't understand where I'm coming from.lol

I am resting up this weekend from a vacation to the southwest last week. Missouri as red as it is was one of the more progressive states we drove through. I felt very proud of the people there. We saw 12 Priuses in that state, one in Illinois and none anywhere else. I'm sure there were some but we didn't see them. Also, they have billboards advertising alternative fuels that stated something like "Use bio-fuels, we'll make more". I felt hopeful just from that. Clintmax should be proud of his home state.

Maybe the tide is turning. I sure hope so. At the very least, you were there showing them that progressives aren't the wildeyed radicals that *co has made us out to be.

(I loved our family vacations in Missouri when I was a kid growing up in Oklahoma. )

29. I appreciate that very much! Ella is doing well , Ashley however..
Edited on Sun May-14-06 12:08 PM by auntAgonist
is not. She is having a serious health problem that has us all very worried about her. It seems she got some sort of infection after/during her C-section that caused an abscess in her uterus. That caused a lot of pain and was subsequently drained, BUT, she is bleeding internally and passing a lot of blood in her urine, yet they say she doesn't have a UTI! Her hemoglobin is dangerously low (6)and she has a home nurse coming in 3 times a day to unpack and repack her incision. (they opened it to drain the abscess) When they unpack, they find fresh blood and lots of it. I have NO idea why they don't hospitalize her. It's very worrisome and most frustrating. She is in a lot of pain, and very anxious. ..

Sorry to rant on ... I just worry, and wish I lived closer.

aA

on edit: I haven't posted much about this situation, I think folks might get tired of my asking for good thoughts etc. I know people care, but I'd rather not whine, y'know?

30. I hope Ashley won't mind
that we light candle for her and that I mention her when I go round my prayer mala in the next few days.

I know what the "wish I lived closer" thing is like. It's my biggest frustration, born of my own life choices. :loveya:

If you read through the thread, you'll be "treated" to some of their "exploits." They're great kids, but like we say in Italian, they're also extremely "furba." (Sort of like clever, but a "handful.")
