Survey: What do you think caused your heterosexuality?
Edited on Tue May-16-06 07:51 PM by iconoclastic cat
I think the Lounge needs to answer these questions:

PORT WASHINGTON, Wis. -- About two dozen parents and community members complained to a high school principal after two teachers there approved the release of a "heterosexual questionnaire" designed to raise awareness of gay-based issues.

The 10-question survey included questions such as, "What do you think caused your heterosexuality?" and "When did you decide you were heterosexual?"

The survey was given to about 400 of Port Washington High School's 930 students, principal Duane Woelfel said. It happened on April 25, the eve of the national Day of Silence, an annual event co-sponsored by the New York City-based Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network.

Woelfel said he didn't know about the survey until a parent gave him a copy the next day.

For the record, here's the "questionaire" that has their panties in a bunch:

Heterosexual Questionaire

1. What do you think caused your heterosexuality?
2. When and how did you decide you were a heterosexual?
3. Is it possible that your heterosexuality is just a phase that you may grow out of?
4. Is it possible that your heterosexuality stems from a neurotic fear of others of the same sex?
5. If you have never slept with a person of the same sex, is it possible that all you need is a good gay lover?
6. Do your parents know that you are straight? Do your friends and/or roommates know?
7. Why do you insist on flaunting your heterosexuality? Can't you just be who you are and keep it quiet?
8. Why do heterosexuals place so much emphasis on sex?
9. Why do heterosexuals feel so compelled to introduce others to their lifestyle?
10. A disproportionate majority of child molesters are heterosexual. Do you consider it safe to expose children to heterosexual teachers?
11. Just what do men and women do in bed together? How can they truly know how to please each other, being so anatomically different?
12. With all the societal support marriage receives, the divorce rate is spiraling. Why are there so few stable relationships between heterosexuals?
13. Statistics show that lesbians have the lowest of sexually transmitted disease. Is it really safe for a woman to maintain a heterosexual lifestyle and run the risk of disease and pregnancy?
14. How can you expect to become a whole person if you limit yourself to compulsive, exclusive heterosexuality?
15. Considering the menace of overpopulation, how could the human race survive if everyone were heterosexual?
16. Could you trust a heterosexual therapist to be objective? Don't you feel that (s)he might be inclined to influence you in the direction of his/her own orientation?
17. There seem to be very few happy heterosexuals. Techniques have been developed that might enable you change if you really want to. Have you ever considered aversion therapy?
18. Would you want your child to be heterosexual, knowing the problems (s)he would face?

1. In my case, it was my parents' stupid genes.
Why couldn't I have gotten whatever genes my gay auntie has? Whyyyyy? My life sucks because I am not attracted to women. I'm kinda bitter about this, actually. And I am so tempted to take that survey and post the results in this forum.

3. A stay-at-home mother, a total lack of Garland records,
and a masculine working father.

It was awful!! That's what made me so sick, growing up in such dysfunction.

On a serious note: I'd love to wring the necks of every one of those pencil-necked bigoted asshole parents. I hope the principal tells them something like "Thank you for your concern, but perhaps you need to be less jackass and more, you know, adult."

7. the questionnaire appears to be little more than
a rant guised as a jokey assignment. Mabye whoever wrote it should've just published an essay instead?

Whether you happen to agree with the sentiment or not seems kind of immaterial.

This thing, while mildly, clever, was a stupid idea

41. It's supposed to be thought provoking
and reflective of the kinds of questions people ask gays.

"When did you know you were gay?"

"Is it possible that you just haven't met the right woman yet?"

And so on...

51. duh?!?!
that's the whole point to anti-gay bias.

if you don't confront people -- in a direct way -- about their bias -- it just goes on and on.

this questionaire puts the ball in the hands of heteros where it belongs -- so they can confront themselves.

sure - but even in that context, I'm not convinced the act was de facto stupid - but the questionnaire itself is fucking brilliant.

71. That questionaire was revolutionary when it first came out
in the 80s. I remember passing it around and we all throught it was a brilliant response to the very vocal homophobia were were hearing every day.

Those questions are used against Gays and Lesbians every day, so turning them around is a great tactic.

67. Lightbulb and socket...
You can't get a lightbulb to light up unless you screw it into the socket... then you got to plug the light's cord into the electric socket in the wall. It's just the way of the world. You just can't screw two light bulbs together and hope they will light up. It just doesn't happen. And you can't light up a lamp by trying to screw the lamp socket into another lamp socket. For some reason, it just won't work. Go figure.

77. But how is that even an intelligent metaphor?
I don't think it is.

You're coming from a typical rightwing homophobic asshole perspective of "male and female genitalia fit together like a light and a socket, therefore, God's way must be that of the lightbulb and socket."

See how that's fucking dumb?

It also makes the assumption that SEX is the only thing that being gay/lesbian is about. Why are the homophobes so obsessed with the sex part?

Why not go with this equally ignorant, but valid in your logic, metaphor: You can't put up a fence with just one fence post; you gotta have at least two, preferably three or four or even more!

Or this one: you can only stack papers if they're the same shape; trying to stack flat paper on round paper just causes the flat paper to slide off.

90. :) Not really about sex....
LOL... It's about light bulbs...

Well, I think it's more about how Thomas Edison thought.

Opposites, for some odd reason, attracts for most things. Look at magnets--I think that has something to do with physics or some odd law of existence. This same idea is taken into how society views sexuality in many ways, too.

Regarding the issue of Homosexual vs. Heterosexual: Damn, if we were all the same, then homosexual behavior would not be so socially taboo. However, really anything that you do in private should be just that--private.

BTW... I am no right winger--far from it. That's for sure.

13. Heterosexual Questionaire (lest I get labled a homophobe...again)
1. What do you think caused your heterosexuality?

Teenage girls...damn them

2. When and how did you decide you were a heterosexual?

I was standing over the toilet, I closed my eyes and *ahem* it just came to me

3. Is it possible that your heterosexuality is just a phase that you may grow out of?

In the same sense that life is a phase, sure

4. Is it possible that your heterosexuality stems from a neurotic fear of others of the same sex?

I have almost as many male friends as black friends...scandalous, I know!

5. If you have never slept with a person of the same sex, is it possible that all you need is a good gay lover?

First things first which would be a good hetero lover, thanks

6. Do your parents know that you are straight? Do your friends and/or roommates know?

I was outted when my Mom found some of my porn collection in the wash. I'd stuffed it in my pants to hide it and then forgot about it. Oopsie. Many tears were shed.

7. Why do you insist on flaunting your heterosexuality? Can't you just be who you are and keep it quiet?

I can but she can't :D

8. Why do heterosexuals place so much emphasis on sex?

Don't knock it til you tried it

9. Why do heterosexuals feel so compelled to introduce others to their lifestyle?

More potential sex partners...see #8

10. A disproportionate majority of child molesters are heterosexual. Do you consider it safe to expose children to heterosexual teachers?

Call me old-fashioned but no one should be exposing themselves to children except for rightly ordained clergy

11. Just what do men and women do in bed together? How can they truly know how to please each other, being so anatomically different?

Crib notes duh

12. With all the societal support marriage receives, the divorce rate is spiraling. Why are there so few stable relationships between heterosexuals?

Contradiction in terms

13. Statistics show that lesbians have the lowest of sexually transmitted disease. Is it really safe for a woman to maintain a heterosexual lifestyle and run the risk of disease and pregnancy?

Heterosexual women do run great risk to promote and secure our way of life. And I'd like to be first in line to individually "thank" each one. Except ones that shave their head, they can convert for all I care

14. How can you expect to become a whole person if you limit yourself to compulsive, exclusive heterosexuality?

N/A

15. Considering the menace of overpopulation, how could the human race survive if everyone were heterosexual?

Nukes

16. Could you trust a heterosexual therapist to be objective? Don't you feel that (s)he might be inclined to influence you in the direction of his/her own orientation?

Yes, I'm a very negative-oriented person, and all their positivity absolutely incenses me.

17. There seem to be very few happy heterosexuals. Techniques have been developed that might enable you change if you really want to. Have you ever considered aversion therapy?

I doubt you have anything better than PMS to offer in that regard

18. Would you want your child to be heterosexual, knowing the problems (s)he would face?

Yes, heterosexuality is the tragi-comedy of life and if you miss that what's the point of even tuning in?

35. On a less amusing note...
I found this while searching for more on the survey:

Conservative women's group
launches grassroots effort
targeting schools that
accept homosexuality

http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/Conservative_womens_group_launches_grassroots_effort_0516.html

Concerned Women for America, a $10 million-a-year nonprofit and lobbying group, announced their "risk audit plan" in late April. The plan seeks to engage parents in a broad national effort to target schools which "promote" gay and lesbian activity by embracing non-discrimination policies and safe-sex curricula or harbor "objectionable" gay and lesbian novels aimed at children.

"Every school district in America has an absolute responsibility to protect children while they are at school," the group writes in their 24-page audit plan. "There is no legitimate rationale for giving or implying endorsement of homosexual, bisexual or gender-variant behaviors among children of any age."

"It is not a viewpoint," they write, "but a high-risk and often lethal behavior."

According to the document, homosexuality increases the risk of anal cancer, smoking, domestic violence, breast cancer and promiscuity.

Sigh... :eyes:

1. What do you think caused your heterosexuality? - Boobies and the hot girls in classes, yes they go to gether

2. When and how did you decide you were a heterosexual? - Uhh fuck I dunno but definely when the girls became cootie free

3. Is it possible that your heterosexuality is just a phase that you may grow out of? - Yeah and pigs will fly, of course not I like being hetero

4. Is it possible that your heterosexuality stems from a neurotic fear of others of the same sex? - I don't fear the same sex, I just ain't attracted to them ya know

5. If you have never slept with a person of the same sex, is it possible that all you need is a good gay lover? - I don't need a lover right now much less a gay one

6. Do your parents know that you are straight? Do your friends and/or roommates know? - Yeah I've been "out" since I was at least 9

7. Why do you insist on flaunting your heterosexuality? Can't you just be who you are and keep it quiet? - To be honest I don't really flaunt it well if you count the Daniela Pestova poster then ok I guess I flaunt it.

8. Why do heterosexuals place so much emphasis on sex? Because it's sex duh

9. Why do heterosexuals feel so compelled to introduce others to their lifestyle? - Love baby love

10. A disproportionate majority of child molesters are heterosexual. Do you consider it safe to expose children to heterosexual teachers? Of course, can't be a dick because of the majority

11. Just what do men and women do in bed together? How can they truly know how to please each other, being so anatomically different? - Boobies among other things

12. With all the societal support marriage receives, the divorce rate is spiraling. Why are there so few stable relationships between
heterosexuals? - Because we're fucking horny 24/7

13. Statistics show that lesbians have the lowest of sexually transmitted disease. Is it really safe for a woman to maintain a heterosexual lifestyle and run the risk of disease and pregnancy? - uhhh yeah sure

14. How can you expect to become a whole person if you limit yourself to compulsive, exclusive heterosexuality? - Just do it

15. Considering the menace of overpopulation, how could the human race survive if everyone were heterosexual? - I don't know I am not a scientist but boobies!

16. Could you trust a heterosexual therapist to be objective? Don't you feel that (s)he might be inclined to influence you in the direction of his/her own orientation? Objectivity depends on the person not their sexuality, a gay person can be easily biased and a straight can be objective or vice versa

17. There seem to be very few happy heterosexuals. Techniques have been developed that might enable you change if you really want to. Have you ever considered aversion therapy? - I feel happy, don't you

18. Would you want your child to be heterosexual, knowing the problems (s)he would face? - Yeah why not/

75. I think they are right. Heterosexuality is a patriarchal plot.
Which causes many women to act contrary to their best interests which is to only have romantic relationships with women. It also encourages many men who hate women to temporarily act nice towards them in order to trap them into bondage.
Sadly, I bought into this plot, which is so successful due to mass propaganda, and married a man.

Am I joking? Maybe. Maybe not. (Just read the thread about how many women have been abused by men.)

81. Hmmmm, lets see if I can answer...
1. What do you think caused your heterosexuality? Anita, 14, swedish, built for speed.

2. When and how did you decide you were a heterosexual? Right after the first time she touched my willy

3. Is it possible that your heterosexuality is just a phase that you may grow out of? Oh, I go in and out of phase

4. Is it possible that your heterosexuality stems from a neurotic fear of others of the same sex? No, I fear the same "kind" of sex. Boredom.

5. If you have never slept with a person of the same sex, is it possible that all you need is a good gay lover? Had one. It was nice.

6. Do your parents know that you are straight? Do your friends and/or roommates know? I came out early

7. Why do you insist on flaunting your heterosexuality? Can't you just be who you are and keep it quiet? Why? Do I scare you?

8. Why do heterosexuals place so much emphasis on sex? Boobies

9. Why do heterosexuals feel so compelled to introduce others to their lifestyle? It's part of our agenda. Have you read it?

10. A disproportionate majority of child molesters are heterosexual. Do you consider it safe to expose children to heterosexual teachers? No. yes.

11. Just what do men and women do in bed together? How can they truly know how to please each other, being so anatomically different? Please each other? So that's the point?

12. With all the societal support marriage receives, the divorce rate is spiraling. Why are there so few stable relationships between heterosexuals? Because one mate, lets say for example, the wife, suddenly decides at age 35 that she likes women, and doesn't care about the consequences or how she goes about informing her husband, and instead sneaks around and has an affair with one of his lesbian friends that he introduced to her, thus multiplying the guilt for both of them, tears apart the family, tells the husband to move out, that she doesn't love him, that she wants a divorce, procedes to lose friends, pisses off lots of people, and then 8 months later after he has suffered from depression, anxiety attacks, been treated and medicated, had to go to therapy, thought he was a piece of garbage, blamed himself, ranted and raved, cursed out God and his minions, was forced to put the house up for sale, pilfered his retirement fund to stay alive and keep the bill collectors at bay, moved out, moved on, met someone special, and has gotten nearly ok with the idea of being divorced again, she dumps the girlfriend for being totally bat-shit crazy and then says to the husband that he's now technically cheating on her, that she's sorry, she was just mixed up, and lets try it again, I want you back, what do you say?

13. Statistics show that lesbians have the lowest of sexually transmitted disease. Is it really safe for a woman to maintain a heterosexual lifestyle and run the risk of disease and pregnancy? Mmmm Lesbians...

14. How can you expect to become a whole person if you limit yourself to compulsive, exclusive heterosexuality? You said hole...

15. Considering the menace of overpopulation, how could the human race survive if everyone were heterosexual? Soylent Green

16. Could you trust a heterosexual therapist to be objective? Don't you feel that (s)he might be inclined to influence you in the direction of his/her own orientation? Yes. No.

17. There seem to be very few happy heterosexuals. Techniques have been developed that might enable you change if you really want to. Have you ever considered aversion therapy? Is that like Aromatherapy?

18. Would you want your child to be heterosexual, knowing the problems (s)he would face? I think I'll be 1 for 1 in that aspect...
