1. I had to go with mimes,
but my sister does clown gigs for pay, and when she is in costume I can only think of Pennywise...

2. just as creepy when relatives do it. I had an aunt who did it, and
every time I saw her in the make up, I wanted to call the cops and tell them to look in her crawl space for bodies.

3. And my sister does this voice that makes my skin crawl.
I guess it is fair to say I am not fond of either mimes OR clowns.

5. Were clowns scary before Pennywise from "IT"?
I'm just wondering if there was the cultural opinion that clowns were scary before Stephen King's book...

16. he tapped the revulsion, didn't invent it. Like Hitler and anti-Semitism
anti-Semitism already existed, but Hitler cranked it up a notch.

I don't think King even cranked it up though. Even before John Wayne Gacy, people were getting uneasy around clowns. I think it's because when you live in an urban area, you know someone trying to hide their identity wants to rob, rape, murder, and/or eat you.

When we were mostly agragrian, people saw strangers so rarely that they didn't know to be afraid of them in that way.

I don't mind Amanda, but her man-slave drummer is creepy and disturbing and not in a good way.

10. Clowns are creepy, mimes are irritating
And not all clowns are creepy. I never thought Bozo was, but Milky, the Twin Pines' clown was creepy (a Detroit thing-we'd see his picture on the milk carton).

31. Mimes are underappreciated.

Clowns, on the other hand, kill children and force the survivors to have orgies, totally blowing the ending.

33. I just have three words for you: John Wayne Gacy
Clowns were never creepy until he went down in history as a serial killer. :scared: I thought mimes were worse until then.

35. An entire thread on clowns and mimes and not one mention of the classic
"Shakes the Clown"!!

Great cast!

Florence Henderson as you've probably never seen her.

Aunt Ester as foul-mouthed as anyone can get.

Robin Williams as the tight-assed mime leader.

Movie made around $35,000!

My favorite clown/mime movie!

I picked clowns, never been the same since Gacy.

:hi:
