8. Okay. Her name is Chevrolet. She is 21. She is deaf and mean.

She was adopted from a pound in our nation's capital by my friend Kelly, now in Peru. Kelly says she adopted Chevrolet because Chev was the cat who bared her teeth and hissed at her first.

I was awarded custody of Chevrolet when Kelly moved. I got the prize because I correctly recognized Chevrolet's name as a Beverly Cleary reference (one of the fictional Ramona Quimby's dolls was named Chevrolet).

The cat only loves one person (my wife), but she puts up with me because I bribe her with salmon-flavored Whiska Lickens every morning.
