But only if they're recipes you personally endorse.

4. The margaritas I've had with Cuervo were extremely tasty.
I agree with your recipe. :-)

19. I'm glad.
Apparently the rest of the Western world thinks it's a horrible recipe!

Margaritas are the only tequila drink I indulge in. Cuervo is good enough for me.

24. As the tequila snob who started the subthread below, I'd like to say...
that, in the end, what you drink should be what you like. If you prefer the taste of Cuervo Gold over the taste of Chinaco Anejo, then by all means, you should stick with the Cuervo. Drinking's all about each person's own personal preference -- well, that and getting toasted.

31. You see, I'm not a tequila drinker at all - just the margaritas.
Margaritas taste mostly like lime and salt anyway. Cuervo is fine.

I'm particular about my vodka, though.

32. I'm particular about my hard liquor....
My tequila is at least repasado, my scotch is either Chivas or single malt, my vodka is Ketel One or Grey Goose, my Irish whiskey is Tullamore Dew, my bourbon is Jack Daniels. I don't drink gin.

At the same time, I'll crack a can of Miller Lite with no problem. I'm weird like that. ;)

Once we get on the subject of wine, I get all bitchy and snobby again though.

33. On vodka we can agree...
I prefer Grey Goose.

I do not, however, drink Miller Lite. I admit to being a beer snob.

I like Blue Moon, I HEART Hoegaarden. That stuff is nectar of the freakin' gods. But I don't mind a piss-water beer.

6. Thanks. But...
I think that most mixes have corn syrup in them. I'd like to stay away from that if I could.

It's only 50% agave.

5. Use lemon and lime sorbet to make frozen margaritas.
Put the alcohol in the blender first, then the sorbet on top.

The store didn't have lime sorbet the other day, so we used raspberry sorbet instead.

Very yummy.

12. Hmmm.....
Do most store bought sorbets contain corn syrup? That stuff is poison.

I know that most homemade sorbets use only sugar.

7. Cuervo isn't even real tequila -- if it's not 100% blue agave, it's crap.
Use any tequila that says "100% blue agave" on the label. By strictest definition, these are the only liquors that have any right to be called tequila AT ALL. Mix 1 and 1/2 parts tequila with 1/2 part triple sec and 1 part lime juice. Use fresh lime juice. That's it. Have fun!

10. Cuervo is the Corono of Tequila
Edited on Wed May-17-06 01:34 PM by LynneSin
Mass produced Mexician booze that tastes like shit. And for the braindead - too afraid and/or too cheap to try the better quality stuff that comes out of that fine country

16. I woudn't even tough the "Top Shelf" Cuervo they've put out
I mean I know that Coors & Budweiser have put out their 'Micro'brewed style highend beers but in the end you're still just drinking a massed produced Coors or Budweiser

27. Right....
personally I only rarely drink tequila, but when I do I'll go for Herradura or Patron (which are both more akin to Negro Modelo than Corona, to use your beer analogy).

17. Rick Bayless says to use 'silver' tequila.
Which I believe is 100% agave, but is not aged.

20. Silver could mean anything, as far as agave. The name is about age...
Plata (silver) is only aged a few months
Oro (Gold, your typical Cuervo) is aged only a few months, but coloring is added to make it look like it's been aged.
Reposado is aged for a year
Anejo is aged for up to three years, usually two.

If you're going to make margaritas out of this stuff, there's no need to use perfectly good Anejo -- that'd be like throwing Johnny Walker Blue in a Scotch and Soda. But I'd at least use the Reposado. Why deny yourself the simple pleasures in life?

8. I had the best margarita on Saturday
I had it at Chili's Bar and Grill. It was the Chambord 1800 margarita. I asked for the recipe, and they gave me the ingredients. I bought the stuff to make it at home, but I couldn't get the proportions right.

Very sad. Expensive ingredients... I ended up drinking shots of 1800 (not the end of the world, but not quite that wonderful margarita)

9. My recipe starts with one bottle of Herradura Anejo....
hold the sour mix
hold the salt
hold the ice
hold the lime/lemon
hold just about everything out
hold anything else that you think you should mix in with a margarita

basically just give me the tequila - thank you!

11. 1 bottle of tequila blanco, some Rose's lime juice, and some triple sec.
That hurt me at my little girl's sixth birthday party.

dolo, eyesroll, and dyskeptic should have had more than they did. I couldn't let it go to waste.

I like the idea of tossing some sorbet in there. I guess I shouldn't have said 'tossing'. Sorry.

18. This is how I make mine...
Edited on Wed May-17-06 01:49 PM by SacredCow
1 1/4 oz. Tequila (for a margarita there's no point using good stuff- Save the expen$ive Tequila for drinking straight)
1/2 oz. Cointreau, Grand Marnier, or Triple Sec (I prefer Cointreau)
1/2 oz. Presidente Brandy
1/4 cup liquid sweet & sour drink mix
1 splash sweetened lime juice (Rose's is what I use)
Juice of 1 wedge of fresh lime (Or half of a key lime, if they're available)

Shake vigorously and strain over ice. I like a salt-rimmed glass, but I know many who don't.

on edit: I don't really measure any of that- just pour until it feels right!

25. Here's ours.
1 part cointreau.
1 part fresh squeezed lime juice.
2 parts tequila.
pinch of salt.

I usually do 2 oz, 2 oz, 4 oz, fill the blender 1/2 full of ice, and blend til smooth, adding more tequila if it's too thick to blend.

Rub the rim of a margarita glass with lime rind, dip in kosher salt, fill er up.
