Any Spoon fans here?
Not the utensil, nor the Can album, but the band from Austin?

Picked up A Series of Sneaks, which was re-released by an indie label after being buried in the late 90s by major-label ineptitude. Wow, what a great album. Kinda like the Strokes, if the Strokes were actually, you know, good.

1. I have four Spoon tracks
which I legally downloaded for free from Epitonic.com. I love "Jonathan Fiske." I had never heard of Spoon otherwise, but I like what I have!

2. YO! Great band.
A series of Sneaks...I picked that up when it first got released, and wondered why it was on a major, but I'd never heard of them before. Britt Daniel is a great writer and singer. Yes, seriously, the Strokes took a lot from them, IMO, too. Except they removed all the good stuff, like melody, energy, etc.

Car Radio: perfect summer driving song with the windows open...

4. Car Radio; I can't stand or sit still when that song is on.
Alright; two bands that we are in agreement on.

6. Too bad that song's so short!
I ALWAYS have to listn to it twice in a row....

"The Fitted Shirt" off of Girls Can Tell is also a Spoon classic. If Zeppelin were just coming out today, that's what they'd sound like.

The last one was a little too fragmented for me; Daniel could have really tightened up the song structures a bit, but "The Way We get By" is killer.

Who's the other band? My short term memory is shot, for semi-obvious reasons...

7. LOL check my sig line
then look at that most excellent photo in your box.

Girls Can Tell really didn't grab me too much, though "Fitted Shirt" is a really good song. It's weird; they seemed to have gone for a more polished, poppy song after their major-label tenure, as opposed to most band trajectories.

8. Ah, the Reactionaries!
I knew it. I'm a pud for not noticing your sig...oopsie!

Spoon still have a lot to offer, IMHO, but they have to rein in Daniel's tendency not to finish songs. Then they'd be the best...

5. They're not real well-known at all, that's for sure
thanks to an incredible mishandling of them by their former major label (I believe they wrote an entire EP named after their former A&R rep, excoriating him, after they got dropped). If you like a power-pop kind of thing, these guys are right up your alley. And, while the guitar playing is not quite as adept as what I know you like, I find it very interesting.

(BTW, do you know if Mosrite is still in Los Angeles? I picked up their old address from a Ventures LP I bought a while ago, and went driving up and down Highland looking for it the other day. Sadly, it seems to have relocated.)

12. I really like them, though the stuff the station here plays
Tends to be the sort of pop-noir singles, like "Everything Hits At Once" and there's another one (my brain isn't bringing it up now, which means I'll wake up at four a.m. and know the name of the song, bleh). They're another one of those bands I keep saying, 'you know, I like at least two or three songs -- I really ought to buy some of that,' but I hardly ever do. If I did, I'd be bankrupt by now.

13. A Series of Sneaks is definitely recommended
"Everything Hits at Once" (pop-noir, perfect term for it) is from a more recent album, Girls Can Tell. Sneaks is an entirely different animal.
