8. I was going to post him too.
He was about a year older than me and I had the hugest dang crush on him after The Mosquito Coast. I was so sad when he died. So talented. And too damned young. :(

6. My pics were taken on the New River
First pic was taken in West Virgina near that big bridge that people jump off. Second pic was taken in southern Virginia.

11. Great pix! And I did wonder where they were taken. Thanks!
The second one reminds me a little of my part of the country, Northern NY. Virginia is a beautiful state. I was always impressed by it the many times I drove south with my grandmother to NC.:-)

And I have also been white water rafting, but not on the Hudson. I posted those pix, since you asked for a river, and the Hudson is very near where I live. Where I went rafting was on Sacandaga Lake, also lovely country, and near where I live...

Galax, Va.I'll post some pics in a couple of weeks. Pretty country there. I did the whitewater thing a few years ago.We tied up near the bridge just as they were jumping.

I know that you're in the Hudson Valley. But it also looks much the same from my point of view. I finally visited Newburgh a few months ago and it's a really lovely town.:-)

:D

Here's one I like a bunch--but there are too many to call one a favorite!

One from my favorite river--the Kettle, this is mother's delight rapid

And one just 'cause it makes me look like a rock star!

:hi: How are you?

The Mother's Delight rapids - is it a Class IV? Looks like fun.

26. Mother's Delight is very level-dependent
Edited on Thu May-18-06 01:35 PM by eyepaddle
It is usually rated around II--but goes up with increased flow. I think here it is something like a II-III. Mainly because you are looking at just about the entire thing! The waves are good sized, and the hole Bryan is tryiing to catch is good-szed and looks surge-y, but you just get flushed through and there really isn't anything to wreck your day. A little ways downstream is Dragon's Tooth which can go up to class IV because of dangerous undercut banks which can trap boats and/or swimmers.

This was a truly fantastic day.

As you can tell, I'm doing pretty well! How 'bout you? :hi:

On Edit: just to the paddler's right is that wide tongue of dark water--that is an easy to hit route past the other stuff (It's wider than it looks in this picture) since you have this nice sneak route the rating is set a bit lower.

The tongue is the route I took of course!

27. Doing good eyepaddle
We're getting ready to put the house up for sale (should be next week) and moving back to W. Pennsylvania. I dug out our old Canoeing and Kayaking in W. Pennsylvania guide book and am carrying it with me in the car :-).

My DU name may change to livetocanoe, LOL!

I don't think I ever made it to the Kettle River when we lived in Mpls. Looks wonderful :-).

Near Bertha Creek on the Kenai Peninsula. I'm not sure which river this is. Bertha Creek feeds into it.
