A strange online test. Have fun.
I'm among the 98% that got the answers the test said I'd get. Very strange. See if you do too.

15. actually
it doesn't matter what number you pick. The sum of the digits of any multiple of 9 will add up to a multiple of 9. And with the constraints they've used, it will always *be* 9

So that means you will always start with the letter D and its downhill from there.

1*9=9
2*9=18=1+8=9
3*9=27=2+7=9
etc

Edited on Fri May-19-06 01:06 AM by NorthernSpy
They didn't say we had to choose a whole number between 1 and 10! And eggplant is too a fruit.

Seriously, any whole number one through ten multiplied nine by will yield a number whose digit(s) add to nine. Subtract five, and the result -- no matter what number you chose initially -- will be four.

D is the fourth letter of the alphabet. When prompted to answer quickly, people will use the words that are most familiar to them. For Americans, those will probably be Denmark for D, Kangaroo for K, and Orange for O.

Edited on Fri May-19-06 09:06 AM by SteppingRazor
If you do the number part by the rules, you will invariably wind up with the number four, no matter what number you pick from 1-10 in the beginning. Thus everyone arrives at the letter "D." After that, it's easy to see how it falls in place.

If you got any country that doesn't start with D, you didn't follow their directions.

... whose name starts with a letter other than D.

It is possible to get an answer other than D without breaking the rules.

They just said to choose a number from 1 through 10. They didn't say it had to be a whole number...
