Hangin' out in Savannah, GA
At a professional conference, but still having fun. Ate at The Lady & Sons last night and did a three-hour self walking tour of Savannah. I haven't been here since I was a kid, and the Pirate House restaurant is still here! :boing: We ate there when I was about 8 years old, and it had all kinds of cool pirate memorabilia---and 35 years later, it still does! :D

Gotta leave tomorrow, but it's been great! :)

1. So how was the food at The Lady & Sons?
Personality-wise, Paula Deen is my favorite Food Network cook.

2. I enjoyed it!
The food was butter-laden and deep-fried, but it was good! :P I don't eat like that normally, but hey, you gotta try it at least once. Her fried chicken is to die for! And so is her macaroni and cheese. :D I got gooey butter cake for dessert, and it was delicious. BTW, I made reservations for our group two months ago, and it was a good thing I did. The line wraps around the block every day for people trying to get in there. :yoiks: They always serve fresh, hot, crispy hoecakes and garlic cheese biscuits to you as an appetizer, and they were great---and I won't eat them again for a long, long time! :) Neither Paula nor her sons were there, so we didn't get any autographs, but it was still a lot of fun.

My husband loves her show, and I enjoy it too.

4. Yep!
:hi: Hiya, Joan! It was a very nice trip. I kinda hate to leave...but I gotta go home to the hubby and doggies. It wasn't that bad a drive from where I live, so I'll get back here again soon! :)

5. This may sound funny but I didn't spend any time there while I lived in Ga

I've passed through a few times. It has lovely tree lined streets.

6. Yeah, it's beautiful!
It had been so long since I'd been here that I'd forgotten just how beautiful. :)

7. I like Savannah
have a cousin who lives there. Have stayed at a friend's place out on Tybee. Looked up alot of the places mentioned in The Book. Saw Emma Kelly at Hannah's East. Wish we'd made another trip before moving from FL to the middle 'o nowhere.

8. Cool!
I haven't gotten to as many places as I'd have liked---been too tied up with the conference. That's incentive to get back down here! :)

I did an internship in Savannah for half a year in 1997/98 and I love that town. Please go by the Live Oaks Library in Bull Street and tell them hello from me (there ought to be some that still remember me  )

Enjoy your stay!! I am envious

12. Just got home a short while ago!
We stayed at the Savannah Marriott Riverfront, where the conference was. Normal rate is $202 a night :wow: , but the conference rate was $159. The overflow hotel for the conference was the Hampton Inn just up Bay Street from the Marriott, and several people said it was actually nicer (and cheaper! Normal rate is $159) than the Marriott. There are a lot of nice hotels on Bay St. Also, getting around on foot is extremely easy, so you can usually leave your car wherever it is and just walk.
