I just wanna brag on a buddy of mine who's completely turned his life around. :toast:
He grew up small-town trouble, young drinking problem. Found the right woman and things started changing. He started working hard, trying to get money together to treat her right; she supported his work to clean up.
Anyhow, he began laying stone, learned from a lot of people, and started hiring people to help him out on jobs. He always bid fairly, always called people back, always finished when he said he would -- even if it meant going over bid to get it done.
In three years he's gotten word-of-mouth in the local construction scene, and his crew has become the most sought-after for stone projects. He's picked up some zillion-dollar work, and his entirely Mexican immigrant posse have dominated the scene.
He trains. He sponsors. He works with families to find them good places to live. He's got more work than he can get to -- so he takes on more people, gets his crew to teach them the basics, and off they go.
His now-wife had a baby one year ago last week. I went to their house for the birthday party, and ate the best tamales ever.
:toast: to a kid done good. :)
