Minnesota's legislature just approved 2 new stadiums tonight.
One for U of Minnesota Gopher football and one for the Minnesota Twins.

I have never been happier to have lived in Minnesota for 12 years of my life. FINALLY, this will soon mean the end of the worst abomination to architecture in history, the Metrodump.

And all you anti-stadium nerds can SUCK MY-

Peace.:)

2. The house passed it. Now it's all up to the Senate.
The Governor has said he will sign both bills in to law. Only thing left is the Senate to pass the Twins end of the deal.

I watched the Twins game tonight (and I'm not even a baseball fan), because I knew they'd be giving updates on the stadium vote, and since I live 250 miles away, I don't get the live legislature-cam that they show on public TV in the Twin Cities.

3. You caught a hell of a slugfest!
Gawds, 16 runs and we still came close to losing the game.

6. No, jobs are going out their butts instead.
Yup. Lots of part time, minimum wage paying, no bennies, pissoff jobs requiring the personality profile test to be taken because the impure and incompatible must be left to rot in our glorious new world.

8. Man, that thing is so inaccurate...
The stadium is chock full of people.

They can't get the Metrodome full for those games... is the new stadium smaller?

Some people think that with a new stadium, the Twins will do better - last I heard the Twins aren't doing very well... :( Well, if corporate america felt the same way about other aspects of business, they'd train their workers instead of offshore the jobs. :D

11. Indeed
I am a diehard Twins fan, and though I will no longer be living in the area, I would love to go see a Twins game in a stadium such as that.

5. Why didn't they pass this taxhike on us 3 yrs ago? Pat Kessler said
Edited on Sun May-21-06 01:20 AM by HypnoToad
how it would cost much more now to pay for the stadiums than 3 years ago.

What Kreisleiter Kessler doesn't understand is that taxpayer money should not be going to something so narrow in focus; particularly given the fact that the teams owners can afford to pay their players so handsomely.

And no doubt you're happy; you live outside of Minnesota. You're not going to have to pay taxes for it one way or the other. :D

The good news is, expect ticket prices to skyrocket. Double whammy, that. Double jeopardy, actually. So you will pay; sock it to everybody. Just Minnesotans twice as much for something fewer and fewer can afford. One hell of an American traditional pastime...

BTW: Don't make me answer to your "SUCK MY- " comment. :spray::rofl:

9. You're just mad because the stadiums passed.
I bet once you actually SEE them completed, you'll completely change your tone.

for Kommisar Pohlad's wet dream to pay my bills. Or, if nothing else, education, shelters, and other things we're supposed to be crying out for.

12. With those distractions out of the way, it's time to focus on the....
...Vikings stadium.

14. That has been tabled until next year
I hate to say it, but the Twins really had more urgency (via contraction threats) than the Vikings.

18. Yeah, I know. I'm just glad that issue is out of the way....
...everytime someone brought up the Vikings stadium issue, the reply always was, "they've got to take care of the Twins and Gophers first."

Now, when the Vikings stadium issue is brought up, we can focus on the Vikings.

20. True
I just hate that the precedent has been set in countless markets, for the taxpayers to take up this burden, rather than the rich owners and players.

17. It'll pass, nobody fear.
Our society rewards big names that do wrongs. I betcha the players will be parying like it's 1999 all over again.

Just think of all the social programs that will undoubtedly suffer because of all this.

I know I'm in the minority on this, but as a voting taxpayer, you bet I am against this wasteful spending. If they can afford the player salaries, they can afford to buy their own lease.

22. Oh whine whine whine, bitch bitch bitch, wail wail wail.
You want your bottle??

Somethings in this world have to be done that you may not particularly want. I was against the new Guthrie and the new Walker, but there was nothing I could do about it.

Sometimes you have to suck it up and just DEAL WITH IT.

25. Just a note...
Petco Park in San Diego is only in its third season, but they're already having trouble drawing crowds. And San Diego probably has the best baseball weather in the country, and the Padres are not a bad ball club.

Apparently, the thrill is already gone... the bloom is off the rose... the shiny new penny is showing signs of tarnish...
