once per 1/2 hour, did you know?

30. They won't hurt you
Back in the 70's I worked a gold camp in norther California. In September the lady bugs start gathering and building massive layers on tree trunks, weeds, limbs, etc. They are everywhere in the billions, literally 3 to 6 inches thick on some trees. We had felled two trees across a small stream and placed a couple of two by fours across these trees just far apart enough to position a 5 gallon paint bucket with the bottom cut out. This was out pottie. Everything would drop straight through into the running water and disappear downstream.

I awoke once in the middle of the night and had to go pottie. I got to the trees and carefully backed out, in the total darkness, to the five gallon bucket and dropped my pants and squatted real carefully into a MILLION lady bugs. I let out a whoop and everyone came running. I can still hear them laughing at me standing on the banks shaking out my pants trying to get rid of thousands of lady bugs.

They never hurt me, bit me, or anything.

We had a rule in camp --- Never disturb the ladybugs, because, when they are balling up you know where they are. Disturb the ball and they can show up anywhere.

35. That all depends
if it's actually a Ladybug, i wouldn't worry. If it's one of those "asian beetle" varieties, it is a minion of satan, and should be avoided at all costs. I reccomend holy water.

Small beetle, about a half centimetre across, bright red with black dots on its wing cases. :)
