A young cowboy named Billy Joe grew restless on the farm
A boy filled with wanderlust
Who really meant no harm
He changed his clothes and shined his boots
And combed his dark hair down
And his mother cried as he walked out;

Refrain:
"Don't take your guns to town, son
Leave your guns at home, Bill
Don't take your guns to town."

He sang a song as on he rode,
His guns hung at his hips
He rode into a cattle town,
A smile upon his lips
He stopped and walked into a bar and laid his money down
But his mother's words echoed again;

Refrain:
"Don't take your guns to town, son
Leave your guns at home, Bill
Don't take your guns to town."

He drank his first strong liquor then to calm his shaking hand
And tried to tell himself at last he had become a man
A dusty cowpoke at his side began to laugh him down
And he heard again his mother's words;

Refrain:
"Don't take your guns to town, son
Leave your guns at home, Bill
Don't take your guns to town."

Bill was raged and Billy Joe reached for his gun to draw
But the stranger drew his gun and fired before he even saw
As Billy Joe fell to the floor the crowd all gathered 'round
And wondered at his final words;

Refrain:
"Don't take your guns to town, son
Leave your guns at home, Bill
Don't take your guns to town."

:grr: :argh: :wtf:

4. good to know
You've Painted Up Your Lips
And Rolled And Curled Your Tinted Hair
Ruby Are You Contemplating Going Out Somewhere
The Shadow On The Wall Tells Me The Sun Is Going Down
Oh Ruby.… Don't Take Your Love To Town

It Wasn't Me That Started That Old Crazy Asian War
But I Was Proud To Go And Do My Patriotic Chore
And Yes, It's True That I'm Not The Man I Used To Be
Oh, Ruby…. I Still Need Some Company

Its Hard To Love A Man Whose Legs Are Bent And Paralysed
And The Wants And The Needs Of A Woman Your Age, Ruby I Realize
But It Won't Be Long I’ve Heard Them Say Until I Not Around
Oh Ruby….. Don't Take Your Love To Town

She's Leaving Now Cause I Just Heard The Slamming Of The Door
The Way I Know I've Heard It Some 100 Times Before
And If I Could Move I'd Get My Gun And Put Her In The Ground
Oh Ruby….. Don't Take Your Love To Town

Oh Ruby…. For God's Sake Turn Around

5. Our black miniature schnauzer is named Ruby...
...hence this song always cracks me up. She got out of the yard yesterday and as I was chasing her down (at a fast walk, she was in no hurry) all I could think of was the last line of the song. :rofl:

8. You've heard of her, then?
Edited on Mon May-22-06 10:13 AM by Richardo
:)

The one game I regret teaching her was "I'm gonna get you" in which she playfully runs away from me. Inside the yard or house, very fun. When I REALLY want her to come to me, not so much. :eyes:

10. Back when Kenny Rogers was good
Before the sappy ballads, greasy chicken franchise, liposuction and disfiguring plastic surgery.
