Anyone want to talk about the Sopranos last night? ***SPOILERS***
Well, you had to know that Vito was going to get whacked. They really didn't seem to have much choice. However, the way it was done will spark a war for control of the family, and it could have interesting clues as to how things shake out for next year's (supposedly) series finale.

I think Little Carmine is going to side with Tony, when all is said and done. Then, Tony will be the head of the family. Either that, or he gets whacked. Hard to say.

Boy, could Carmela be any more of a downer? What a crappy trip to Paris - I thought Rosalie was going to kill her for bringing up all that death crap.

Glad to see that Tony is finally making AJ do something. That kid is such a punk, now he'll get a taste of the real world.

1. It would have been a great episode except the Paris trip
Wouldn't it have been better if in Paris maybe Carmella would have met the hot parisian to hook up with. She's overdue for an affair especially since her almost last one was whacked.

I think the Vito thing played out extremely well and should set the Sopranos up perfectly for the last 8 episodes coming out the beginning of next year.

I find it interesting about how the Sopranos are all written like hard-core Bush supporters and yet the way it's written almost showcases the hypocrisy of republican supporters. The fact that they could not accept Vito as gay and even he could barely accept it (he wanted to go straight but still gave his lover Johnnycakes a call) really highlighted the hypocrisy that gays & lesbians have to deal with everyday in our society

4. Yeah, the hypocrisy of their religious beliefs too.

Homosexuality is a sin, but yet viciously killing someone is 'just business'.
I wish Carmela could hook up with Furio - when Tony suggested she go to Italy, I wonder if she even considered that she might run into Furio there.

Wait till she figures out that Tony screwed her on that inspection of her spec house - she will kick his ass.

15. Wasn't Furio killed a few seasons ago
Wasn't he pushed into a helicopter blade or was he almost pushed into it. I can't remember that far back

17. No, but he nearly pushed Tony into the helicopter blades.
He was pissed because he felt that Tony wasn't showing Carmela the love she deserved. Then he took off, and didn't Carm confess to Tony that she had the hots for Furio? When she and Tony were trying to divorce? Wouldn't surprise me if Tony didn't reach out to his friends in Italy to have Furio 'taken care of'.

2. Yeah, Vito was a dead man when the mob found out he was
attracted to other men. We didn't know how or where, but we knew he was a goner. There's now been one retaliatory killing, and there will definitely be a war over it. I like Tony's idea, though---hit Phil in the pocketbook, because that's all he understands.

Phil will end up dead before this is all over with. Little Carmine will indeed side with Tony.

Carmela had a revelation on the trip, which is why she was so down. She's heading into midlife crisis, by my estimation. It'll piss off everyone around her for a long time to come. I wish Rosalie would have gotten up and walked out when Carmela brought up Jackie Jr. It was no one else's business who she lit candles for!

AJ will end up dead or in the mob himself.

And of course, Carmela will start her own investigation into Adriana's death.

7. Yeah, I think Phil is going to end up dead. It's not going to sit well
when they figure out that he's holding out on Johnny Sack and Little Carmine. He killed a made guy without permission too, so that's another bad mark. Bye bye Phil

3. The Adriana thing will be very interesting.
Carmella will start figuring it out if she hasn't already.

8. The idea that Tony's gang had Adrianna killed is just starting to
creep into her consciousness, isn't it? I don't have any great hope that Carm will learn from it, though - she is too ensconced in her plush suburban lifestyle to change much.

12. Carmella is just as guilty as Tony.
She knows what his business is, but won't let herself think about it. A part of her knows they killed Adrianna -- probably has known all along.

5. About friggin' time Tony did something to straighten AJ out.
He and Carmella have spoiled that lazy, smartass spoiled punk rotten for too damned long.

9. Yeah, I laughed a couple of weeks ago when he wanted Tony
to set him up as a manager in a NY Club. What is he - 19? Now he wants to manage a club? Yeah, right.

6. I shall miss his dieting tips.
But the dude was so uncouth. Eatin' veggies and farting on others' furniture. :dunce:

I've only seen the first 4 eps this year but I'm having a friend tape 'em so I can watch at the end of this month.

I felt his demise was foreshadowed when Carmela warned Tony about him during his hospital stay.

11. I think he'd have been okay if he hadn't been caught in that leather bar.
It's really a shame that Tony couldn't have taken him up on the AC offer, though. I think Tony really wanted to, but he had to know that the rest of the group would never let it happen. Vito's homosexuality tarnished all of them, and their egos just weren't going to accept anything less than Vito's death. Sad, really.

14. I wanted to add why I think Tony will eventually become head of
the family. I see that happening by the end of next season, which is the end of the series. Then I think about two years later, there will be a feature film on The Sopranos, which would update us about Tony and his life as the big boss. We need him and all the major characters still alive for that.

16. It's the best explanation of why they put the big guy in jail
because it freed up an open slot for the New York family and with Vito's killing there should be a great all-out war.

For some reason I'm expecting AJ to not survive until the very end. You compare AJ, who is scrawny and a bit of a slacker metrosexual to hulking Tony - it should play out well.

imagine what it would be like to lose a son. Maybe she'll find out?

but I've got a feeling that the guy Vito shot in New Hampshire is going to end up being significant in the next season and going to be a part of the downfall of the entire family.

But stranger things have happened on that show, as we all know.

22. It was the nature of the accident...
the way the cars locked up like that. There's evidence all over the car linking it to the crime seen. I missed some of last weeks episode, do we know how Vito disposed of the car? Anyway, Vito's linked to rural vermont and the killing. And I suspect there'll be public outcry over Vito's murder, I doubt we've seen the last of Johnny Cakes.

Anyway, that's the sort of thing that brings down big crime families. They got Capone on tax evasion. Some crime only distantly related to the day to day business of the mafia ends up getting investigated and eventually brings the whole thing down. The same way a B&E in a hotel room brought down the Nixon presidency.

That's just my theory. I figure the series is going to end up with Tony in prison and it's going to be some half forgotten crime that somebody else committed that brings him down.

24. Ahhh, that makes sense.
BTW - I thought the write-up in the paper of Vito's death was horrible. It stated that he had recently come out as a homosexual and wanted to live an openly gay life. What kind of crap is that to put in the paper?

Anyway, maybe the whole Johnnycakes thing will come back to bite Tony. Who knows? I thought it was interesting that Sil wouldn't allow the other guy (Carlo?) to cut up the man they killed in the pork store - because of possible DNA. Those gangsters have been watching too much CSI!

20. You're absolutely right
BTW, I thought it was funny that guy borrowed 20k from Vito and was even ok with 2.5pts interest because he knew Vito was getting whacked. And then at the very end as they were all sitting around the table talking about the Vito whack, I think it was Christopher who said if he knew Vito was going to be whacked he would have borrowed money from him. And then the camera pans pass the guy who did borrow the money

26. the lead in for the next episode...
...said something to the effect of "make sure you catch next week's episode, the final episode before the last... 8... episodes... ever!"

So I figure they're going to hold off showing the last eight for awhile. I don't know if you'd call that a "next season" or if the term "seasons" really apply to something like the Soprano's.

25. Anybody think Adrianna's coming back?
Think about it ... you never saw a body, you never saw Silvio actually shoot her. Could they bring her back? Sil got soft, couldn't shoot her, fired into the ground and let her go (maybe even shipped her off to Paris?).

Call me crazy. Just looking for something totally unexpected for the big finito.

27. Nah, she's dead.
Remember, she wore a wire for over a year. They know that she could have very well taped them in incriminating situations or conversations. They would have no mercy on her, none. Especially Sil - he's a real bastard.

Did you catch last night when they were having the naked lady sign cleaned outside the Bing and Sil was screaming at the workers to make sure they got that mud off her tit, or something like that? Cracked me up.
