Favorite Christmas special?
Can't pick a favorite. There are three that I try to catch every year;

1) A Charlie Brown Christmas
2) Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
3) Santa Claus is Coming to Town

I also used to love the Norelco commercials they always showed during "Santa..." with Santa riding a razor (even our name says Merry Christmas).

1. I like...
the one with Heat Miser....

and there was a special that's not on anymore, it was animated, took place in Harlem I think. Aliens came down looking for the meaning of Christmas. very wierd, yet very touching.

3. I got A Charlie Brown Christmas on DVD ...
there's an extra scene on there I don't recall seeing on TV. It's great but there's no Dolly Madison cakes commercials on it either.

4. A Child's Christmas in Wales
Edited on Wed Dec-10-03 03:52 PM by bif
None by the BBC and shown on CBC every year. It's wonderful. Denholm Elliot plays the Grandpa, telling the story of Christmases of his youth. Written by Dylan Thomas of course. I read it to my two daughters every Christmas Eve.

I have a cassette of Thomas himself reading that. It gets airplay every year when we go up to Baltimore to see my mom + family.

15. Mr. Daniel looks like a spaniel!"
Dylan's reading of it is a classic. They play that on CBC radio every year too! I'm lucky to live across the river from Windsor!

14. The GOOD (i.e. 1951 Alistair Sim) Christmas Carol
Edited on Wed Dec-10-03 04:17 PM by unidentifiedbassplay
Doesn't play on TV much anymore, but I have the video.

There was also a version with George C. Scott I saw once, and it was quite good. I liked his portrayal of Scrooge as more of a smart-ass.

16. The Year Without a Santa Claus!
Cold Miser and Heat Miser rock da HOUSE! (I prefer Cold Miser, BTW)

Other things I like about it are the comic stylings of Jingle Bells and Jangle Bells (heavily based on Leo Gorcey and Huntz Hall of "Bowery Boys" fame), and the surpisingly moving song "I believe in Santa Claus" that Iggy's Dad and Santa sing to him. Even today it manages to bring a tear.

Has anyone else ever noticed the celebrity cameo among the parade bystanders when the mayor of Southtown comes out to sing "It's gonna snow-ho-ho right here in Dixie?"

It has innuendo too. Jingle and Jangle get busted for "riding a vixen the wrong way down a one-way street"!
