Miniature brides? I'm getting too old
I have recently become aware of a rather unsettling fad: the Miniature Bride.

Apparently, the idea is to take one of your sisters' daughters, dress her in an exact replica of your wedding costume including hairstyle and makeup, and send her down the aisle between the flower girls and the bridesmaids so everyone in attendance can be enchanted by how charmingly adorable she is.

This sounds like some weird-ass JonBenet thing going on here.

3. Sounds to me like the creation of a new "role"
hence another dress,

shoes,

hair,

&c.&c.

But then I've never understood the bridesmaids going in front of the bride - they're supposed to be "attending" on her - yet I've still seen this practice crossing the Atlantic.

5. Hah. This year's "right-hand ring"...
...with an industry that just happens to be in place to supply it.

11. The bridesmaids go ahead of the bride...
so that the bride can go last, during which time the attendance stands.

7. it's an old traditional thing in some cultures
dressing up a little girl isn't really that weird. Making her wear your hairstyle and makeup is though.

10. I think it's a Southern thing
When I first came to the South about 15 years ago I did typesetting for a local printer. Occasionally I'd get wedding programs that listed a "miniature bride" and "miniature groom." I asked about it and was told it was common in black weddings. Looks like it may have spread.
