Yuck! This tastes awful.
What to do when you cook up that whatever you picked up at the grocery, and it tastes like road kill? I only have 3 methods of dealing with this problem.

- chuck it.
- see if the dog might be interested.
- eat it anyway.

How about you?

17. yeah, there is no such thing as a bargain
that's pretty much what I've discovered.

But hey, you could make your own pot pie! They're not too hard to make with leftovers & some store-bought pie shells.

I can cook any kind of meat - there are some very basic rules, and the rest is all variation on a theme. I get in trouble with exotic veggies though - they always look interesting but there is a perfectly good reason you cover up eggplant with pasta sauces and cheese, and I won't even start on the some of the funky stuff from far deep Asia or South America. They look pretty but often don't steam well or "touch up" well; there are perfectly good reasons to drench them in hoisin or teriyaki or curry.

But experimental cooking is fun - I'm too curious. I sure would hate to be laying on my deathbed a hunnert years from now going, gosh I wonder what the heck that pulsing green spiky thing woulda tasted like. Crrrrrroak.

Actually I would dearly love to try fresh durian (indonesian stinkfruit) someday. Has anyone else?

3. Toss it...
Since my cat won't eat anything but purina kibble, I'd have to toss it out.

4. Let me tell you about my spinach pie.
Had never made it before - smelled great while cooking. Gave it to my kids first who told me it tasted bad. I thought they were just saying that because it was something new so I yelled at them and demanded they eat it. The poor things sat there with looks of disgust on their faces while they bravely started to eat. A few minutes later I sat down and took a big bite of my spinach pie.

It was really, really awful. I looked at my kids and felt horrible I had made them eat it. Took the plates away, apologized and ordered pizza. I don't even think the dog wanted what was left. :hi:

7. Oh, I feel your pain
I've done the exact same thing, making my son eat something that I haven't tasted -- he automatically resists anything new and no matter what it tastes like, makes a face. So, crying wolf has not been good to him :)

5. Depends, of course, what it is
Sometimes I think twice before giving it to my dog -- the thought of cleaning up vomit or diarrhea sometimes outweighs my frugal nature :)

9. What to do?
Hey. gravy saves everything.

Slather it up with some red eye gravy and your family will love it.

I gar-on-tee!

10. My mom had a friend who thought she was a gourmet
cook, but in reality, whatever she made was total shit. She made a casserole for Mom one night, and it was inedible. It had fruit, vegetables, rice, cream of chicken soup, and a whole bunch of unidentifiable stuff in it with bizarre spices. It was very nice of her to think of us, but even the dog wouldn't touch it. It weighed about 15 lbs. Mom complimented her on it the next day, saying that we had finished it all (well, Mom finished it into the trash!). The next week, the friend made another casserole for us. :P

would have done the same. They get into trouble with etiquette.

15. I know.
I think Mom finally told her friend that although she appreciated her thoughtfulness immensely, her doctor told her to avoid certain foods because of her high blood pressure. Mom's BP was indeed high but under control with meds, so it was an exaggeration. That was the nicest way she could tell her friend without making her angry or upset, and it worked. They were friends for decades until the friend passed away at the end of last year.

16. Try sending an email to the mfg
Describe nicely what you didn't like about it.
Sometimes they'll send coupons for some of their other products. It's worth a try.
