Kentucky Derby (G1) winner BARBARO (Dynaformer) is progressing nicely, has normal vital signs, and is in excellent condition as of 3 p.m. (EDT) on Thursday, according to Dr. Dean Richardson, chief of surgery at the George D. Widener Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine's New Bolton Center.

Barbaro remains in intensive care as he recovers from the life-threatening leg injuries he sustained during the early running of Saturday's Preakness S. (G1).

3. I'm glad he's hanging in there

The first and only time I went to the horse races, a horse in mid race started bucking off it's rider. I thought it was funny until I saw his leg swinging back and forth. It made me sick and spoiled the enjoyment of the sport forever. I like horse racing, but I can rarely watch without remembering the damage to that one animal. I expect that horse was downed on site.
