Is there such thing as a social spider?
I ask because there's a spider that's been hanging out around my coffee maker for the past few days. Every time I fill up my mug he runs out from hiding and checks out what I'm doing. It's very strange to say the least, it seems like he enjoys my company.

I usually do the catch and release thing with spiders, but so far I have no desire to put this dude outside. He's kind of like a pet. :)

2. I thought you meant metaphorically...like a social butterfly
only instead of just being all gregarious and such, the "social spider" ties acquaintances up and injects them with neuro-toxins. And eats them.

3.  Someone told me that there was a tarantula
that used to visit when they were on the patio - crawled on her husband etc.

5. Yes, spiders are our friends,
unless they have babies...

7. This guy is much smaller
He's hairy and black, with a yellow triangle and horizontal stripe on his back, a little over 1/2" in diameter. Not a jumper and not a slow crawler, just a nice, non-intimidating medium speed.

Any Arachnophiles know what kind of spider he is?

6. Sounds sweet, however...
You are probably twanging one of the spider's weblines that causes the spider to respond to a possible catch in its web.

But, please...continue your fantasy that you have a spider as a friend

8. Maybe, if it's an itsy-bitsy spider...
