I will have a few hours to explore D.C. next week...Advice?
It's my first time in the capital. Any must-sees? In a dorky politics-nut kind of way I want a picture of myself in front of the Watergate hotel. :) But I also would like to check out the mall, the Lincoln Memorial, etc. I really only have a few hours--mostly in the evenings--over 3 days. Any recommendations?

2. First time in D.C.....only a few hours.....
Weather permitting...just stroll the National Mall from the Captitol to the Lincoln Memorial and back up the other side. It's such a beautiful city, sometimes just feeling that history is all you need for a great experience time of it !

Have fun :hi:

5. If you're on the Mall during the day...
...consider stepping into the National Gallery for a stroll among the artworks (and your fellow visitors).

Visit Union Station (very close to the Capitol).

Consider a visit to the new World War II Memorial. In fact, you can really do the memorial walk in DC and just keep going from one to another -- Vietnam War, Korean War, World War II, etc.

You can also visit all the presidential memorials, including the newest one, which is for FDR. But if you are at the National Archives in downtown DC, you will see FDR's requested memorial: a simple slab the size of his desk.

It's a pity that the National Museum of American Art and the National Portrait Gallery haven't reopened yet (Renovations should be done this summer).

7. Walking the Mall is a good suggestion...
I believe the museums close pretty early.
If you want, I can give you the address of FUX's studio, and you can heckle O'Lielly...

8. Go to the Lincoln Memorial
I was touched in a way I wasn't prepared for by the Lincoln Memorial. When you're done there go "next door" to the Wall.

And then when you're as somber and reflective as it's possible to be...sneak across the street to the statue of Einstein and have your pic taken sitting on his lap. It's the most whimsical thing I've ever seen.
