help me out here with jeans sizes for a skinny teenager
So the nephew has grown out of his boys size 18 jeans, in length. According to his waist measurement and the size charts, we should buy a 28W 32L pair of jeans to fit him. But good lord! What kind of store carries 28W Levis or Lees? I haven't been able to find any.

Any clues?

1. They used to carry 28W Levis.
My old boyfriend wore them. But that was probably at least 10 years ago, and with the American population getting fatter, I don't know if they still carry them.

20. You're right, Gap would not carry a unique sizing like that. I don't think
I've ever seen a body builder in jeans, come to think of it.

They seem to clothe themselves in the surf pants, etc with elastic waists.

A unique look, to be sure. Hulk Hogan comes to mind.

21. im not at that level; but with a moderate build
with a moderate build, it is more difficult to buy clothes than when i was very slim. dress shirts that fit my neck and shoulders look like a bell around my waist. i can still find certain designers that fit, or certain cuts. but you are definitely correct about very built guys, jeans are not going to work for them unless they are tailored or bespoke

5. Weird
I wore 28W through out high school and that was normal. Now it's skinny?.lol. Seriously, I didn't think that would be a hard size to come by these days. Do kids wear pants that fit in the waist these days?

8. I agree with the Gap suggestion.
Their men's jeans start at 28W.

9. I have a daughter like that.
She's a tall size 0 - 1. I've never found a pair of pants that fits her except in places like TJ Maxx or our local store, Marden's, which carries stuff that doesn't sell elsewhere. When I was a girl I had the same problem but my mother wasn't a resourceful shopper. I wore skirts.

10. When I was in 7th grade...
my mother had to make my pants for me. She used a little girls' size 7 pattern, and just made them long enough for me.

12. Funny! That's what I ended up doing too.
I also sewed my own shirts and coats, because I have very long arms.

I am, in fact, oddly shaped.

13. I need to learn to use the sewing machine I have.
My daughter, age six, is very thin and tall. She needs a size 7 in length for pants, but she's no bigger around than a size 4, and some size 4s are too big around! Those adjustable waist pants are worthless - if I buy a size big enough for length, I have to adjust the waist so far that it's completely bunched up and the elastic digs into her skin.

I love warm weather - I can put her in shorts and capris and dresses and skirts and not worry so much about it. I don't know what I'm going to do next! She keeps getting taller and taller, but stays so slender. I guess I really need to make some clothes for her.

14. You can do it.
When Kira was younger I would buy the long pants and adjust the waistband and side seams. She was always "totally cool"! It was worth the effort to make her feel good about herself. I've always told her that being very slender is a blessing in the long run.

16. Or at least be able to take things in a bit
I was a skinny kid (not a tall one but just really thin) so my mother or grandmother had to take in all my pants until I was eight or nine.

KwikSew's Sewing for Children is a good book to teach yourself from. The illustrations are dated and ghastly but the patterns themselves are basic and not dated. It's very easy to adjust the patterns to fit too.
