Ok, this is driving me nuts: I need to stop thinking
I've always had an overactive mind to the point where it becomes difficult to "not think" and just relax. Well, the events of the past few days are keeping my mind racing and I cannot relax or just zonk out.
I'm probably going to smoke and watch stupid TV shows, but I need more suggestions to turn my mind "off" for a little while.

1. You have two roads ahead of you
I've tried both, seen friends follow both.

Drink yourself unconscious. It works, for a short time.

Focus your attention on the here and now, and not on yourself, but those around you.

5. seeing as how I usually dislike alcohol...
...I don't want to drink a lot. But I need something to shut my mind off, if only temporarily.

6. What helped me is to find a focus outside myself
Labor in the service of others, working with my hands but in the company of others has helped me in the past.

It seems cliche, I know, but it works.

8. Of course, you could go in a completely opposite direction...
Rather than turning off my mind for the Summer, I've decided to crank it up a notch. I'm picking up my Russian studies where I left off some years back. Here is a link to live Russian radio. Just trying to listen and understand a foreign language should be enough to engage your mind 100%.

http://radio.echo.msk.ru:8000/listen.pls

Russian is just a suggestion, there's live broadcasts in every language imaginable.

The first time I tried to listen to Russian radio live, I was exhausted and zonked out in 30 minutes.

13. A suggestion for Next Summer...
University of Texas Pan American has a Marine Research Laboratory located in South Padre Island; It is practically a fortress on the beach.

If you can somehow talk your way into an internship there, you should be able to sate your writing and biological interests at the same time.

Long time ago, I spent a Summer there as a lab assistant, and I still look back with pleasure at that period of my life.

I checked Woods Hole, but it was already too late for this Summer's internships. Pity.

7. It's okay. (hug) You have a balcony where you can sit and listen to,...
,...all the sounds of Boston? Boston's such a cool city 'cause there's such a mixture. Maybe, you can just go sit outside for thirty minutes and "listen" to Boston. Maybe, listening to that will gravitate your mind away from distressful concerns.

17. I am under the influence of alcohol; just watched "Whatever Happened To
Baby Jane?" Thought maybe I am kind of like Jane Hudson or maybe Bette Davis. I remember seeing this movie with my Mom on TV when I was 10. Then I go online and see all the insane things I am supposed to care about & it just makes me want to "Send A Letter To Daddy". So maybe I am a bag lady waiting to happen.
