ATM charged my account but didn't give me the money.
Has this ever happened to you? It's all resolved now (I got a letter in today's mail) but it took 3 freakin weeks and alot of aggravation.

What made me the maddest was the skeptical scorn I received from 2 personnel at the bank when I told them about the incident. They were extremely rude. I think they thought I was lying or something.

What happened was, On a whim I decided to rent some movies and since that place doesn't accept checks, I walked across the street to use a nearby bank ATM instead of going across town. Even though they charge a ridiculous 2 dollar fee, my laziness felt worth the 2 bucks at the time. Yeah I know :eyes:

The transaction seemed totally normal until the machine told me to take my money. The money slot made 'that noise' but nothing came out. Seconds latter, my card and slip popped out but no money. I assumed the slip would have some sort of error notice on it but instead it showed a debit of 40 bucks + 2 for the fee. (I was going to get gas with the cash too in case you're wondering why 40 bucks for movies)

Anyway, that particular bank was still open so I went in and told the teller. She gave me a dirty look and said "I can't help you with that. The manager is out at the moment so if you'll just wait over there". The teller and her next customer who had heard the exchange said a few things, the teller rolled her eyes and then she and the customer both looked over at me and laughed. It's as if they thought I had made this up... I know I looked kind of sketchy as I had been working in the garden, but Geesh! My demeanor had been of someone who was somewhat baffled but I had been polite.

Finally the manager comes in after about 20 minutes. The teller calls her over, they have a brief discussion and an annoyed almost angry look comes over the manager's face. She comes over asking me if I was having a "problem". I explained the situation while she's walking me to the freakin door! I held out the slip for her to see, but she wouldn't take it. She just simply said "You''ll have to take this up with your own bank. Have a good day" Then she opens the door. If I hadn't been so humiliated and shocked I would have been mad. I certainly am now but at the time the attitude was so unexpected. :grr:

Long story short, I had to go across town to my own bank after all... The manager WAS being truthful at least. I DID have to take it up with my own bank. But it could have been done a little more politely. I REALLY think they thought I was lying. Why else the attitudes? It took me another 20 minutes or so to fill out forms, the bank did an "inquiry" and I did get my money back.

I hope someday Karma throws those 2 women for a loop!

1. Yup, had it happen before. I saw the little door open up, the money got
stuck in there so I could just see it peaking out, then the door slammed shut on it. I just kind of stood there with my mouth open for awhile. My bank was really quick to sort it out for me though. Sorry to hear about the rough time they gave you.

2. I used this crappy ATM at this motel and took out $40.00.
When I got the receipt it showed that I withdrew $100.00. I told the manager about it and he gave me this ph# to call on a business day. It took me two weeks to get that straightened out between the ATM owner and my bank.

4. Yeah that happened to me too, recently.
At a convenience store, I tried to take $100 from the ATM. Slip came out but no money. I went home and checked my account online, and sure enough the money had been deducted. I called my bank immediately, and they credited my account for the $100 that same day. But they told me that they would investigate and if my story couldn't be proved, they'd automatically take the money back out of my checking account.

Then they sent me a form to fill out, and they took it up with the convenience store. About a month later I got a letter telling me that everything had been resolved.
