Did HUD/Section 8 make a mistake on my re-certification?
Ahhh- I just got a letter today that my re-certification went through, and- starting next month I will have to pay $100/month additional to my landlord, for "my share" of the rent. HUD will pay $100/month less than what they paid last year (even though my income stayed almost exactly the same). This means that 45% of my monthly income will go to just paying the rent, a jump from the 30% of my income I paid last year- never mind other expenses. I really thought 30% of monthly income was "the limit" of what they ask you to pay per month. Did it skyrocket recently to 45%, or might there be a mistake?

Joining the others in the Lounge tonight- I need a hug! $100/month extra to pay the rent... that's gonna be tough.

1. You've got your hug.
And I'd contact your local Legal Aid, have them read everything over.

4. You're welcome.
Another poster here stated that you need to make an appointment to review. I second this.

If nothing happens at the appointment please contact your local Legal Aid. Many do work on housing.

3. You should by all means make an appointment to go down and review
your status with them. It could be a mistake. If you're polite and kind and business-like, you might be able to get it changed.
