I'm glad I gave up coffee.
Not a preachy thread, I promise. If you love your coffee, I'm not going to try to guilt you out of it. Enjoy. I just feel a whole lot better (and WAY less stressed) since I stopped drinking it. I don't miss it one little bit.

1. I'm weaning myself off it.
I used to drink 3 - 4 cups a day. Now I'm down to 1. Eventually, I'll be off it entirely.

I agree with you...even though I've not entirely given up coffee (yet), I do feel better. Like you said, less stress.

4. acutally asth
I just read that coffee/caffeine is actually protective of liver function (for those who love the brewskis)

I drink half caf, myself.

6. Do me a favor, would ya', Aeog?
Get preachy. I drink about 4 cups a day, and I've toyed with the idea of getting off of caffeine but stress reduction just isn't a big enough incentive. What are the other benefits of forsaking the dark mistress?

7. I feel GREAT in the morning now.
It used to be I was a mess - totally useless, zombie-like and brain-dead - until I got some caffeine in me. Now, I wake up and I'm just up. Ready to go. No maintenance.

If that isn't enough, think of the money you'll save. 4 venti assfrapp cockuccinos a day adds up fast.

And the withdrawl was easy - only three days of mild headaches. I did it over a long weekend and I was totally fine when I went back to work. Would that cigarettes were so easy to kick.

11. Yeah, but just think
how much better you would feel if you kicked cigarettes. It's four years now for me and I haven't looked back.

Although, I recently developed an addiction to chai lattes -- but black or green tea is supposed to be good for you and I only use nonfat dairy or soy milk.

12. I know - I'm making plans.
My car's going to be paid off in a couple of months (a year ahead of schedule - I've been on a sacrificial budget so as to be done with that asspain debt burden ASAP), and when I have that extra money free, I'm getting all doctored up, including a Xyban 'script. It's been 20 years now I've been smoking, this shit has to stop, but I totally can't handle the cravings and moods, so I'll be enlisting pharmaceutical help this summer.

Did you go cold turkey, proles, or did you do nic replacement?

17. Cold turkey
I also had smoked since I was a young teen. Yeah, I thought I was cool and mature. :eyes:

What made me quit was that I had a really bad upper respiratory infection and the doctor prescribed an inhaler. That was what clinched it. I decided gasping for air wasn't the way I wanted to die. I started thinking about death every time I smoked for about three weeks (I was down to a pack every three days, so I was a light smoker by then anyway.) until I just hated it.

Then, I locked myself in my house for the weekend and ate and slept and ate and slept some more to get over the roughest part. Then I stayed away from smokers and didn't drink alcohol for a couple of months so I wouldn't relapse.

Since then, I have developed exercise-induced asthma that has progressively gotten more sensitive to other triggers, not smoking is quite easy.

Well, that's what worked for me. I never thought I could do it either. Quit putting it off.

8. Well, good for you, my dear asthmaticeog!
I'm glad you're feeling much better....

Now, as for ME!

I only drink one mug per day, right after breakfast....

And I LOVE the kick it gives me.....

I don't think I'm overdoing it one little bit......

It works for me!

14. That's cool.
I was on the constant coffee diet - 4 or 5 a day, spread out through the work day. Once I'd crashed from my morning jolt, I'd get another, and so on and so on and so on... My addictive behavior needs to find healthier outlets.

9. i never liked it much

Co-workers here seem to live off it and I always wonder why. I always felt that if you need coffee to get you going in the morning, its just hiding a real reason that you feel that way, such as not enough sleep, bad diet, not enough exercise.

13. When did you get the headache?
I quit once for a diet, well switched to decaf, and I got major headache. I was told that is normal .

15. Mine would come mid-morning,
when my body got around to realizing it was being deprived of something it was accustomed to. The first couple days it lasted all day (drinking lots of water helped ease it some, though), but by the third and fourth days it was negligible, and then it was gone.

19. Been there, done that - back drinking it, and happy.
If you feel better without it, then good for you.

But a couples of times I've given up caffeine totally (not just coffee either).

It was bloody hideous getting off it, and once I was I saw no great difference to before.
