3. Yeah...been there, seen it firsthand
They had a huge brothel in Pompeii with all sorts of porn painting on the wall. But at least those Pagans were honest about it. Go to the Duomo in Florence and check the huge mural of all the souls being cast into the Christian Hell. That's more pornographic than anything in a Jupiter temple!

7. I was thinking that while I was looking at this.
That they at least were open about sex, while we're not.

18. yes -- those little statuettes of the god Priapus ...
The type they used to put outside brothels. Might make a fine novelty bottle-opener these days, if we weren't such a bunch of prudes!

If it's supposed to ward off evil spirits, how did they ever manage to make children?

They don't show you THIS in Art History class.

16. I actually have seen stuff like that.
We did a whole thing on Grecian urns in one of my classes based on Keats' Ode to a Grecian Urn. The Prof showed a lot of gay erotic as well as straight erotic art.

17. Thankfully, things have changed since my Art of the Ancient World class.
I've seen some similarly themed art in Boston and London. The MFA has homoerotic Greek pottery and The British Museum displays "The Warren Cup" prominently in a large gallery.

It's interesting to compare ancient and "modern" cultures, isn't it?

19. It is interesting.
Especially considering "modern" culture considers ancient culture "savage". :eyes:
